NlightD L3 Review | A compact and relatively practical LEP with a small issue

New Review!

I wanted to post this one for a while. I bought the flashlight back in January, but wanted to delay publishing the review because of the driver issue the L3 has.

Sadly the beam isn’t quite what you might expect and is probably my biggest and only gripe with this flashlight.
Out of factory, the NlightD L3 comes with a driver that provides the LEP module too high of a current, in result over-driving the phosphor layer, causing it to leak blue light into the center of the beam. The effect is most noticeable on a white wall and doesn’t actually hinder the flashlight’s practical usage, but it’s a bit of an eye sore.

The blue spot in the beam isn’t as visible when actually using the flashlight outside.
I recently asked Neal and he told me that the L3 is still being sold with the old driver. Considering it has been 10 months since the release, I just decided to post the review.

The good news is that Neal will gladly send you a good, corrected driver that’s quite easy to replace (about as complicated as replacing a driver in a Convoy C8+). I’m not sure if Neal could do it for you, before he ships the light to you, I haven’t asked.

The new driver fixes the issue entirely.

Other than that, I really enjoy the L3. it’s like a Convoy L21B (same hotspot size, slightly higher range) but much more pocketable. I use it often when I go on walks.

Read the review and tell me that you think!
