Hi, i had a discussion with my friend, hes is not into high end batteries, and usually is using affordable-cheap (or junk if you want) batteries, and thinks that branded batteries high quality ones are overrated.
I show him test, where 5000 mah blue cell ultrafire if i’m not wrong, had an actual capacity of 1000 mah instead of 5000 rated, so then he answered, that no branded ones, like blue only with some codes, are much better then branded ultrafire-trustfire blue ones and similar type of low end batteries. He stated that the original blue ones, are decent quality parts, and that if there is no brand, the factory wouldnt make cheap quality cells, because in future they couldnt sell ones, and would destroy their “reputation” pretty sure this is his logical thinking then fact, AFAIK 90% of the non branded 18650 - are junk, maybe Sanyo, Samsung and LG are making great quality 1 color based cells, but i dont think there is some unknown factory which makes good quality cells - blue ones.
Can anyone spread some info on this cells? hes cell was unprotected blue one. He is claming, that that cell is good one, and has like ~ 2000 mah actual capacity which is not true if you ask me.
Doesn’t sound like he will be easy to convince short of testing its capacity & current handling. Some people are stubborn & just shouldn’t be near li-ions.
The easiest way is to fully charge his batteries, have him use them for a relatively full run time, time it till the light starts to dim a little. Then use good Panasonic 3400 mAh batteries and the difference is such an eye opener. When I first started, I suspected they werent good with near a 30 min or so run time for my blue 5000 mAh labeled balloney batteries. After I got my Panasonics and it ran for almost 2hrs, my suspicions were confirmed, I did some research as well and I never wanted to touch “cheapo” batteries again.
Those Chinese companies that make junk like this have no reputation, and if they do have a reputation, its a reputation in “I can sell crap really cheap and make a good profit, I have a great reputation!” That is considered a “good” reputation in some circles there…
You can’t really force him to understand though, and if he doesn’t use his light for long and doesn’t have any good battery to compare to, he probably wont ever, and will be another “Batteries work great, the flashlight is bright!!!” reviewer on Amazon. :P.
Not that I know of. It would not make logical sense anyways. What company that takes the time to make good cells would not put their name or identification on them for people to see and look for later?
Might be GTL brand. I think I may have an ultra fire with 2000 mah capacity, not sure, still need to use it. The blue ones haven’t been good, I suppose a few good ones could’ve sneaked out, though.
Curious if the same factories that turn out good cells make lower quality ones.
Also I have some blue Samsung 20B laptop pulls if that matters.
I know a few people that are same way. I tried a few times to convince them and then realized that I shouldn’t even try… Most of that type of people are smarter than all of us and they know that…/sarcasm/
Sure there could be what one would consider a ‘good’ blue cell, but why risk or spend the time wading through hundreds of Junkers to get one.
Also note that the above test: blue junk and then Compare to a Panasonic 3400… Check out the output as well. The blue pos will run a nice 3A light at 1-1.5A max while the panny should run it at 3A.
To top it all off, that Blue thing may not have the standard built in failsafes. So in the event of catastrophic failure you get a nice little pipe bomb.
