?? You can lean the mattress against something if it’s not stable. Standing upwards is just to maximize contact with air so the solvents can get out faster.

It is bad for memory foam mattresses to be vertical.
I looked it up, and that’s what the experts say.

Yes, for storage it should be flat. Two days standing upright does nothing bad to it, it’s just a glorified block of foam. I do it every time with our new mattresses and they never folded in on themselves or got wrinkly.
It’s your choice of course but I would rather breathe in less of the solvents.

That’s not what the experts say.
You have access to the internet, so you are free to look it up if you don’t believe me.

Against better knowledge I just did and unsurprisingly the recommendation is not to store them upright. Airing the solvents out for 2 days in an upright position is not storing. Anyways, I’m out.

That is not the information that I found when I looked this up before I ordered my mattress.
My research says that having your memory foam mattress vertical actually DAMAGES the mattress.
I would ask you for your expert source that says that leaving a memory foam mattress upright for two days is perfectly fine, but I’m pretty sure that you don’t have an expert source for that and you said that you were out so I guess this conversation is over.

I’ve had 6 of them and every damn one of them says air the thing out for 2 days.

Put it flat or whatever turns you on, but sleeping on it tonight is just …
Show me directions that say to sleep on it right away, I’ll wait.

I never claimed that sleeping on it tonight is the right thing to do.
I just said that that’s what I’m going to do, and I’m not going around telling others that it’s the right thing to do.
I don’t have room to put the mattress anywhere else, so it’s on top of my old mattress, in my bedroom.
I don’t think not airing it out right away will damage the mattress–it’ll just take longer to air out.
(The mattress is already ten inches thick.)
The worst that I think might happen is I might get sick from breathing the fumes.
If that happens, I guess I’ll learn my lesson the hard way. :+1:

Didn’t you just unroll it out of a ludicrously small box and cut open the bag it was in? If being rolled that tight didn’t damage it how could standing it in edge possibly do anything to it?

The vacuum packaging of these mattresses is actually an incredibly violent process with tons of pressure exerted, as can be seen here:

So yeah, standing it on the side for ventilation for 2 days is not gonna hurt it.

“The mattress should never be stored vertically, sideways, or upright, especially for a long period of time, as it can shift its inner workings and make it lopsided over time. This especially applies to memory foam mattresses. It should lay flat with nothing on top; even soft items can eventually dent it.”
Now I am not too sure if standing a memory foam mattress vertical for two days would be a problem. :man_facepalming:

This will be my last comment on this and please do not take offense.
The first sentence of the quote you just posted says this;

The mattress should never be stored vertically, sideways, or upright, especially for a long period of time.
Keyword here is “Stored”

That said, I do understand and respect your situation of not having more room to do what you need to so maybe just pull sheets off in morning and flip the mattress often with windows open (if possible) for the next 2 days .
Also I found that letting sunlight hit it helped to hurry the smell factor along.

Peace out and enjoy your mattress and hope it is “the one” as that seems to be the never ending chase that we all go through as we age.
I actually just added a 3" memory foam topper to my memory foam mattress because it felt too stiff.
And it worked “for me” and was cheaper than a new mattress.
They are so subjective which is why reviews are all over the place when you try to chose one.

Well, like I said, “I am not too sure if standing a memory foam mattress vertical for two days would be a problem.”
Also, I was answering Dale’s question and the quote that I quoted was the best answer to his question that I could find.
I couldn’t find a definitive answer to the issue, but when trying to answer Dale’s question, I realized that I think I was wrong earlier.
Apparently when I did research earlier, I came to the wrong conclusion even though I did quite a bit of reading.
I apologize for giving wrong information.
I think the the discussion was pretty civil, and didn’t become a heated argument, so no harm, no foul. :+1:

By the way, I already have some memory foam toppers bookmarked in case I need to order one.

I honestly don’t believe standing it to get the most complete air circulation can’t harm it. Especially for the short amount of time required. Yes, I use one. Yes, I’ve stood it on it’s side several times. It’s been fine since 2017. Got it right before my neck surgery.

I recieved 2 things from Aliexpress yesterday:

1st.: a Flego (= Fake Lego) technic M 1000 RR. Although this is obviously blatant copying of original Lego, the price difference was/is just too big to ignore this one. (Flego: € 36,- Real Lego MSRP: € 249,99 and to be found for ~ € 190,-)
They went out their way to mention ‘Lego’ or ‘Technic’ anywhere, but the included stickers do use the BMW and ‘M-sports’ logo and name.

2nd.: Also recieved some of the ‘DIY practise kits’ for soldering. They are relatively cheap, good to practise soldering on and they tend to keep me entertained for a while. Also fun to see something working right, that you’ve soldered yourself, even if it are easy ones.

I got a couple 18V 3Ah Makita LSX battery packs off Amazon, comparatively cheap (still not cheap) and they came bare in a plain box without even the cover.

I was gifted an older Miter saw/drill combo set that are NiMH packs, packs won’t hold a charge of course. Saw is literally new, never used, not even once!

$16 adapter also from Amazon plugs into the old Makita tool and allows the new Li-Ion pack to slide in. Not cosmetically perfect in fit but it works and should provide more power than the original NiMH arrangement.

I ordered this USB to Micro USB cable for my mom’s cell phone.

I hope that it’s more durable than her old cable…

She got that one twice.
The first one lasted about 20 months, and the second one only lasted about 8 months.
Either she’s not too careful with her cables, or this old one doesn’t last that long, or maybe both are true.
She’s usually pretty careful with her belongings, but her cables (in general) tend to fail now and then, and mine don’t usually fail.

Well, the other night after jabbing myself with my little pocket knife, I set it down somewhere and promptly lost the damn thing. Needed a replacement so I ordered this lovely piece of kit. Been a hot minute since I had a Schrade blade around. Forgot what nice knives they make.

Can confirm. Stored a mattress like this for a few months and it was ruined. Few days probably be fine tho
