It’s official the GT94 is finally ready for production!

This is the GT4 except with SBT90.2 LED’s.

Here is a great review by VOB of the GT94

My prototype testing showed that This light has about 1/3 less lumens but gains 3x the throw vs the GT4.

These are my rough results so far, VOB should be doing a review soon to get some comparison numbers.

For throw I got 1.4Mcd or 2,375M of throw.

The bathroom lumen test (won’t fit in my sphere) shows something around ~18-20k lumens depending on what calibration I use (needless to say it is not a precise measurement).

Most of the rest of this was copied from the GT4 GB as it is the same light besides the LED’s.

This is a beast of a light, as far as I know this is the heaviest and best passive cooling production light to exist on the consumer market. Loaded it should weigh ~7lb+!

This light has been a project I have wanted to get off the ground since the first GT back over 3 years ago. In fact in my initial pitch for the GT the second thing I pitched right behind it in the email was a quad version of the GT, aka the GT4.

It runs 4x SBT90.2 led’s powered by 8x 18650 cells for a massive ~400w+ of power!

The real standout feature of this light though is the passive cooling design. As far as I know this is going to be the best passively cooled flashlight to ever be produced for the public. In prototype testing I was able to run it on turbo until low voltage protection kicked in without reaching damaging temperatures for the light (now, your hand would not be happy with 90-100c temps but that is another subject lol).

The tint is around 5700k, at low power levels it does have a green hue but at higher power levels it is a very nice white

Here is the review I posted about my prototype a few weeks back:

Ok, just took a little time to do some quick measurements and look at the technical aspects of the GT94. VOB will be making a video review with beamshots and all that good stuff when he gets his light and has some time (have confirmed he has one coming).

This time my light got a little scratched up in shipping, seems someone is shipping the sample lights a bit differntly then the production units lol. Thinking about recommending that they attach the handle in shipping and use the foam to hold it in place in the box.

Overall everything looks fine on my sample.

Calibration is correct on mine.

This falls in line with what I was expecting though and shows they are being driven very well, should be around ~30A of current at that output aka ~450w like the normal GT4.

It should be noted that this measurement is far from ideal as humidity is high and my throw measurements are almost always lower then others. This was also after the output tests and using HG2 cells vs VTC6. Longer range for the test would also improve numbers I am guessing. So I would not be surprised to see 1.5-1.6Mcd from others tests.

VOB has a light coming as well and it will be interesting to compare numbers, I always tend to round my numbers down so they are generally worst case numbers, I leave best case numbers to others lol.

The tint is good for a CW light, in the low modes before the main channel kicks in there is a green hue like the SBT90.2 is known for but as soon as the main channel kicks in it turns into a really nice bright white. I personally prefer NW or WW but I could live with this CW, which is high praise from me lol.

I then ran a thermal test by setting it on it’s side (like it would be used in the real world), in a room with ambient air around 27c. No airflow to speak of. Disabled the thermal stepdown and set it to turbo and let it run.

It started out at 30C and after 4 mins it was at:

60c hottest point in fins
50c at button
40c battery tube
33c handle

at 8 mins it was at:

76c hottest point in fins
68c at button
60c battery tube tapering to 50c
37c handle

at 12 mins it was at

87c hottest point in fins
77c at button
71c battery tube tapering to 61c
39c handle

Notice a trend yet? The even tempreture rise shows it has a good thermal path.

at 16 mins it was at

93c hottest point in fins
85c at button
77c battery tube tapering to 68c
45c handle

LVP kicked in at 17 mins (cells were already used some for earlier tests) with basically the same temps. The cells when pulled out were around 75c, VTC6 are rated for 80C, so just within spec.

I then hot swapped to a fresh set of cells to see what would happen if it got a bit hotter and let it get up to 105C before shutting it down.

During the ~1 min that it took me to swap carriers the light cooled down to ~83c to give an idea of hot much heat it was shedding even without airflow.

The light still works fine and no damage. I let everything cool down, recharged the cells and tested output again and actually got slightly higher numbers (slightly higher voltage cells most likely).

So basically the same thermal performance as the normal GT4, confirms they are using about the same amount of power.

The light will handle disabling the thermal protection but it is not recommended to run it until LVP except in an emergency / testing situation. The cells while still in spec if you are using VTC6 are pretty close to the limit and could be past the limit on lower quality cells.

So apply common sense if you disable the thermal control.

If you leave it at the top of the ramp instead of turbo you should easily be able to handle that power level until LVP with much lower temps and double the battery life or more due to less voltage sag etc.

2,375 and 19,000: This compares very favorably with six other lights : X65, R90TS, R90C, HK90, MF05 and GT4. The closest cousin may be the R90C.

Ok, for me, this light is about two things:

This is the first light that has both significantly more throw and more lumens than the X65. (after an almost four year wait)

And the next thing: How much more throw does this light have than the R90TS?

Yeah, I have never claimed spelling is a strong suite for me, spell check doesn’t work in the title bars so I tend to make more mistakes there then normal. Plus I have gotten lazy over the years and just assume spell check will catch even the mistakes I notice when typing lol.

I just pre-ordered from the link that is posted in the middle of the first post of this topic thread. I want to see for myself how the throw compares to the R90TS. Also, I have never purchased from Nealsgadgets before, and I have never purchased from Texas_Ace group buy before. Also, after a almost four year wait, this is the first light to have both significantly more throw and significantly more lumens than the X65.

Expect some delays in getting these shipped out due to supply chain issues but it will show up at some point lol.

The Imalent R90TS will step down to 25% output after 1 minute and will definitely not have the throwing distance of the GT94 even at startup. And then what throw distance will you get after 1 minute? At least the GT94 will have a sustainable output.

Thanks for your info. Soon, I will see for myself how this light compares with X65 and R90TS at turn on, 20 seconds and 45 seconds. I like to classify lights based on max turbo at turn on. I don't run any of my lights on max after they begin to feel hot. When that happens, that is what lower modes are for. :)

There are not a lot of sources for unprotected button top high drain 18650; and solder blob tops may not all be the same length, so search shows choices of Bat. Jun. Ultrafire 2400 mAh, Illumn KP 2900 or 3200 mAh 10/20A, Neals 30Q 3000mAh, and Adventure Sports/VOB VTC6 3000 mAh. I decided to go with ordering 8 x VTC6 from VOB for this light.

Got DHL tracking number for my GT94.

Neal just informed me there was a mistake in the assembly line that put orange peel reflectors in the GT94 by mistake.

They will be sending out Smooth reflectors that you can switch yourself if you desire. The hardest part of swapping them is opening the head, it requires a strap wrench to get it open.

After that it is a matter of being really careful to not drop the reflector on the LED’s (holding the light upsidedown and pushing the reflector up carefully while watching is the best option).

I received mine today. Def got an orangepeel reflector. I can’t get the damn thing to turn on though. I’m hoping its just an issue loading this battery carrier. I’m using 8 30q batteries I pulled out of my OG GT.
