Olight Arkfeld - Spoiler alert...It's not worth all the hype

Here is a video i uploaded to my YouTube channel about the Olight Arkfeld. “The flashlight I DON’T love!” CHeck it out and let me know what you think in the comments section of the video.

I really don’t get the whole “Olight is SOOO great” hooplah. Especially the Arkfeld. Just saying…

Its ugly.

Not every light needs to speak to your “need”, “want” Ect. If you Don’t get “It” then don’t rail on it. It is not for you.

Side note there is a plethora of models. Colors and materials are different. You forgot to mention they have 3 tints. Warm, Neutral, or Cool white. This is a new thing for Olight.

Many of us that have railed on Olight over the years have a huge hate for it, or are slowly coming around to liking them as they bring features we like to the forfront. Side note buy on sale because they have a ton of sales. Like one every other month. I have a similar one to yours only warm led tint. It cost me less than $70.00 on sale and free shipping.

For me the holding and it Changes output as well is a nice thing as I really like Anduril and this is as close as some makers will ever get. It has a meter for battery is a nice thing as well, something you skipped over. As far as only being able to charge the silly thing 300 times this is the first I have herd about it, and I generally don’t go looking at threads about this or that being a known issue ect unless I have a problem. (sight sources please) I do edc this light (it is in my rotation) as it is a pocket, and hand friendly shape, and the clip seems to work for me. I do not charge it every night as winter is not here yet and those are the days I give most lights a good work out.

It seems your 8 out of 10 rating you gave it in December 2022 is alot more than it should be considering the huge post you wrote about it. Thanks for watching though. Have a good one.

I always take reviews to be in a good part to be relating personal opinions. So if any given light does not make the reviewer happy, I fully expect them to relate that information. I am not sure why it should bother anyone. If a reader does not agree, so be it. But it is not a personal affront nor even a general condemnation of the manufacturer. It is the reviewer’s opinion and I expect them to relate that to the reader.

Personally I was glad to read about the author’s perceived shortcomings. Definitely things to think about before spending the kind of money Olight wants for their products. Even at $70 that is way to much to pay for something that simply does not do what I want it to do… BTW, I absolutely hate batteries that cannot be changed. It is simply and totally unacceptable to have to throw away something because the battery dies!! Especially at this kind of price.

That couldn’t have been said better if i tried to express it myself. I don’t remember anywhere in my review where I said anything but my opinion of it. Kinda the whole point of reviews! I appreciate your commenting on it. Thank you, have a good one.

What’s wrong with it?

The price!,
The laser I don’t know if it is available wit out the laser, but I don’t care for having a laser , thanks me.
Also the non replaceable battery or do I have to return it to OLight for extra cost to have the battery replaced? That’s a game ender for me

I find Oligts generally very expensive when comparing them to Acebeams or Armyteks, where applicable. But at least, they offer some interesting controls, like the one on the Arkfeld. And usually, they’re well designed, with the Arkfeld being an exception. What spoils it is the asymmetrical beam.

I found this very hard to believe so I looked. I do not see a warm option on the green laser or the UV model. 4-5k neutral and a 5700-6700k cool white only.
Olight is severely allergic to warm light. They are not the only ones but they have the worst allergies.

It kinda feels like something is missing. Usually torch reviews have beam shots, detailed info about the hardware and UI, performance measurements, and personal opinions.

I can’t say I find the Arkfeld particularly appealing, but a lightstick with white+UV and a simple interface (dial+button) seems like a decent concept. Make the battery replaceable, bring back the 1-way clip, and it seems like it’d be fine.

It isn’t a review. It does have my personal opinion though. :+1:t3:

I am flattered that you took the time to go look at my post. My post then was just after receiving it. Now I have a long term use on the light. I would drop it to a 7 out of 10. The Shiny has rubbed off now. Yes I am rather wordy when asked my opinion.

I would say that it lasts longer than I would have guessed. This kept it from dropping more. it is a nitch light. I still like the laser, and I like the UV light I was gifted one with the UV light, both have reasons I like both of them. The shape and hand feel is still up there. I have the old style clip, and it works for me and what I ask it to do, be secure in my pocket.

Lights are fun for me and even the worst one, as long as it lights up will get a 2 out of ten in a review. To get a one it has to be a hazard to use, or non functioning.

Olight has always been proud of their lights and like many of the light companies of old. They tend to be more expensive compared to our BLF preferred brands (most come from china and are factory direct). They consider themselves as a step above budget. The UI is still better than most consumer lights. (Yes they are a consumer light even if they tell you otherwise, they have to keep their UI simple for the muggles. Here at BLF we are enthusiast and have lights that confuse most muggels, and some enthusiasts.)

**I also stand corrected. (I went back and looked) They do not have a warm led tint. **
Old age is a SOB and I thought that they had offered it in a warm tint.

After reading your post, I was thinking what you could do with a 2, or 3 position switch and a push button. The replaceable battery and clip would make me bump it up a point back to 8 out of 10.

To each his own my friend. The video was simply a personal opinion of mine. Nowhere was i bashing or abolishing Olight all together. You’ve gotta shake it up a bit every now and again, and it’s something new I am trying out on my channel. The Olight Arkfeld…It’s not for me. That’s all. I appreciate your input and opinion on it. Have a good one!

I quite like mine (despite many things I don’t like about it).
I think I may pull the trigger for a LED swap to get high CRI with a 519A or similar. I’d prefer Anduril2 for sure, but still, the UI is ‘okay’ as it is (not the ‘hold for lock’ though)
+1 on the battery & clip

Got myself an Arkfeld Pro, it is much bigger than the UV one, works the same as the UV one, so I still like and don’t like the same features !

There’s a UV version instead, although it’s not very good UV (no ZWB filter).

Agreed. Also the proprietary charging. I doubt the battery is at all replaceable though, so it just becomes ewaste when it’s worn out, which is even worse.

Quite right! I don’t know how that would work in NL because here is no national Olight organisation. There is a company who managed to get the exclusive import rights en collects a firm fee for every Olight (and some other brands). They just sit in their “toll booth” en watch the lights go by. And that is all they do. I guess you’ll have to orchestrate any replacement yourself.

I definitely feel like their response would be “buy another”…
