SO I am sitting here debating writing this. yes I know how most olights are kinda hated by the Flash light aficionado’s, The Tacticool Timmies, and a few other groups. Heck I was one of the not really interested in any until they clean up things. Well in th elast few years they have been working on QC and a few other things. I has been a day or two since some one reporting any of there lights having self combustion issues or not working when attached to a firearm. Also the lights seem to be doing better on firearms, yes I own a firearm and wanted a light that was affordable but would last.
So like many companies out there they had The black friday sale. Me being the Flashlight hobist that I am, I figure I would look in to a few WMLs if the price was right. Yeah It was, Supper affordable. So I bought 2 of the PL-3 Valkyrie’s because well it is always nice to have a back up light in case things go sideways. over all I am liking them. I am causously optimistic and will do a seprate review one day down the Road.
So while looking at things and thinking I have not purchased anything odd in light wise since last year and Grabbing a Nightcore Tini2 and GT nano. And Hey Olight has some interesting outside of the box items. Lets take a looksee and find out if there is anything interesting.
Things to remember I am an old school BLF’er If it is over 50-60 bucks it beter be more than kinda interesting. I like hearing a Dime scream as I get 11 cents of value from it.
So there was a lot of Yawn worthy things over there at Olight.
Not so much that was grabbing my fancy.
Wait, what is this? Arkfeld? Colors? Laser? Wait a Minute Olight is offering Lights with a Neutral White Light? No more 7K white lights?
Hmmm. over 80 bucks? Na hard pass. Hold up Black Friday sale? 60 bucks? Hmmm Well, why not.
So I bought a Brown NW (4000K~5000K).
First impressions. I really like it after 4 days. Fits in the pocket, clip is just about perfect for amount of tension need to hold it in the pocket. The light is More to the 4K for a NW light (Peasent supprise after listening to the customers ask for a better color option). The user interface is not the best but it is by far not the worst I have seen. The Moonlight is sub 3LM by my calibrated eyes. So there may be some varation and I don’t have a light spheer. I like it because it is also not looking like one of the lights I have in my pockets all the time. The battery status is good to have and easy to read. Magnet base works (It is a love hate kinda thing IMO.)
So the spacing of the modes is just ok, I feel the spacing could be a little bit better. Is it 1000 lm? not sure. Not sure that for the use I wanted it for not really needed. In my jacket pocket is my other back up light that that will put out more light and farther.
I do like how it sits in the pocket. Smooth edges so not going to get gouged by the bezel or the ears that protect the rear mounted switches.
The green laser. Yup it is a green, it is a good sized and easily seen, again yes. Was it the reason I bought the light? Well it did help me decide to get it.
It seems to be on par with brightness of my lumitop tool 2.0 with AA’s in it. with Moonlight being clearly lower on the Arcfeld.
Down sides.
I has the history of Olight to get past.
Battery is not changeable. It does come with a priority charging cable.
I am learly about how well the switch will hold out after 2-3 years of figgitting and on/off cycles.
Gripes.
The only gripe I have at this time is that the Charger is not backwards with the other light I have from Olight that is magnetic and just clips on. It seams they have reversed the polarity of the magnet. now this may be for reasons they just do not feel like talking about but dammit make one charger work across all of your product lines Olight.
So over all a 8 out of 10. This light is not for everyone. It has a lot of new options of colors and materials that will be upcharged for.
Prices have gone back up since BF.
