Olight Baton 4 emitter swap success!

I recently swapped the emitter in my Sofirn sc13a, and have now been afflicted with upgraditis.

I decided to swap my Baton 4 to something a little warmer.
I settled in the LHP531 in 4000k.

I clamped the utility blade in my vise, and rested the seam of the bezel on it, and tapped it with a small rubber mallet while rotating the head of the flashlight. Within about 2 minutes I had the bezel off.

There was virtually zero thermal paste on the copper mcpcb.
Flowed the old emitter off and the new one on.
Added some Noctura NT-H1 thermal paste and buttoned it back up.

Altogether, I had about 40 minutes into the swap.

I’m happy with the way it came out.

Nice work

So instead of placing the flashlight in the vise, you put the blade in the vise instead. I never thought of it before.

Thanks!
You know it’s funny. I hadn’t thought of putting the blade into the vise either. But I read it somewhere while researching doing this particular swap.
When I did my sofirn a couple days ago, it took forever while holding the blade in hand.
I will definitely be doing blade in vice from now on.
This is only my second press fit bezel removal, and I’ve learned a lot between the 2.

Maybe you saw this one?

Congrats on your mod! Those Batons are good lights. Some press fit bezels, like when fully recessed, can be very difficult but these aren’t so bad.

Did you hammer the bezel back on or press it with your vise?

No, I hadn’t seen that. I think I saw it on reddit, or google AI results.
I love the use of 2 blades in the vise.
I bookmarked your post. I’m definitely doing that next time.
I used a tiny jewelers rubber hammer for reassembly.

Since I can’t leave well enough alone, I decided to take apart my very old/worn S1R Baton II.
I carried/used/dropped it every single day for many years straight. It has never failed.
I’ve dropped it so many times, I’ve had to file the tail end a couple times so it would make contact with the charger.
Now to decide which emitter to put into it.

Edited to add: you can see in the upper photos, I had already started to remove the bezel. At that point I thought to take pictures.

Using a vise. That sounds easier than my method for removing press fit bezels. I place the light flat on table and hold it and the blade in place with my left hand. Then I tap the back of the blade with the side of a pliers. Rotate and repeat.

That’s pretty much how I did my first one.
It took forever.
