Now these were initially offered @ $250 , then there was a price drop to $199 , and just recently there was another price drop to $149 , and what can I say , my brother could not pass on the deal .

So I had all of about an hour to play with it .

The TV came well packaged ... and was easy to set up .

Now I hooked it up to my computer .. And aside from the TV sitting a little low , worked well .

Im personally holding out for a 26inch TV to replace my LCD monitor ,

Bottom line , if you can live with a 22inch LED HD TV - monitor - for $150 at Safeway [ Melbourne Australia ] , this looks to be one heck of a deal ...

Picture quality is excellent .. No Faults .. Easy to set up ...

The only let down is the Audio - sounds a little on the cheap side - but thats what the 5.1 surround is for I guess [ does not come with the TV ]

A bit of an update ,

For all you LCD fans , LED is a serious upgrade , the thing that really got me was the viewing angle that the LED offers ..

With LCD if you dont get the angle right , the picture deteriorates seriously .. No such luck with the LED , even at what you would call bad LCD angles the picture remains perfect ..

Im looking forward to one day having a 26inch LED TV-Monitor , but my brother is seriously pleased with his purchase , and cant stop crowing about it ...

Absolutely right. This panel is 100% an LCD panel, with an LED powered backlight. Viewing angles are Not affected by the fact that your using a LED backlight.

Its the type of LCD panel that makes the difference, with most computer monitors using a TN based panel which has although much improved, are still quite viewing angle sensitive. Alternate panel types such as PVA, IPS are more commonly used in TV panels and some computer monitors, and these provide very good viewing angles and colour, however are not as fast (less suitable for serious gaming)

A Panel I would really strongly recommend for computer use is the Dell U2311. 1920x1080, with fully height adjustable, swivel stand, and an excellent panel for colour, and viewing angles because its a sPVA? panel. And its relatively fast for this type of panel too, which makes it ok for most games, but Awesome for everything else. Its also priced like the more standard (and much cheaper) TN panels! Available for $220 from Harris Technology (australia wide)

Only -ve for some people would be the lack of HDMI, but for me the DP connector is more relevant. Also uses an average 25 watts, very competitive against other monitors, with LED type power usage, but with a CCFL.

Otherwise you can have THE best 27" for $720 from HT, the U2711. Colours are just Seriously rich on this panel! (or get 3x 2311s and run them in spanned desktop mode!!)

Yes sir 8) IPS and PVA panels all the way, will never go back to TN. Love my 2209WA btw :p

using TV like this as a computer monitor.. whats the benefit of a lets say TN panel dedicated computer monitor?

TN = Cheap!!!! and can have much faster response times

The Biggest benefit is the lower cost. The 2-5ms grey to grey response tim is Fast, but is only relevant to serious gamers, it really doesn't give any noticeable benefit to most users. (speed as in the time it takes for a pixel to change from grey, to a different colour, and back to grey.)

IPS/PVA type

= usually 2-4 times the cost. Some newer cheaper models starting to span the cost gap (at some loss of performance such as viewing angles)

But they give FAR better colour (higher gamut - so a bright green will be brighter and greener), Far better viewing angles (practically minimal colour/contrast change)

Only 'problem' is that the screen grey to grey response time is usually no better than 6-10 ms, with many in the 20s. This isnt noticed by most users, except those that constantly view fast moving images, such as FPS gaming, where fast movements become blurred as the pixels slowly change colour.

But TVs and monitors use the same panels? Whats the difference between TVs and monitors? In a bigger size TVs are cheaper than monitors. Are TVs just as good as monitors for PC? (Lets ignore the response time)

In a nutshell yes , as long it has the right connections .

For high intensity Gaming [ FPS ] you want something with a decent refresh rate ..

My current LCD monitor is 2ms - 5ms seems to be a standard for most computer monitors ..

My Brother has his set up now as a computer monitor , and its brilliant , as well as a Digital TV , so he has replaced his old TV and his CRT monitor , making for much better use of limited space ..

And this LED TV was cheaper than a LED monitor the same size ..

A win win . He needed a new monitor , he wanted a LED TV , now he has both for the price of one .

The hardest place to get non-tn panels is on laptops. The only ones you can get are a tablet-pc or two and couple models of very high end business machines. The upgrade option (from the standard screen!) is $500 on the one HP line. You can get an overpriced apple ipad which is a whole "computer" for that much.

The one cool thing they can do with LED backlight is to actually put a bunch of them in an array in the back instead of lighting the whole panel from the side like usual. That way you get something closer to the dynamic contrast ratio spec on a static image. Gives LCD's a plasma look esp for dark colors. I've only seen this on TV's, even though it would be more useful on monitors because those are actually used for static images and not just video where it's less noticeable in passing.

I use a largish tv for my monitor, and I plan to get one of those next.
