Opinions, good for HID Mod?

Hi, I was looking at a site where somebody sells halogen flashlights at low price.

The yellow one has a reflector diameter of 130mm, and the black on the left is 140mm.

Each one costs USD15 and come with a 55W halogen lamp. Is a good idea to mod it with a xenon light for a megathrower like the maxabeam?

What should I consider before buying? I don't know anything about HID modding so this will be new for me.

Those flashlights doesn't have batteries, they have a 12v car plug.

What do you think? every opinion will help.

Thanks in advanced

i think no batteries is the way to go. I've got a little satchel w/ 7ah sla and 12v accessory plug for going portable w/ 12V stuff.

as far as suitability of the host, i have no idea really, but I don't see why not!

Worst case, you learn what will work better, and could maybe reuse components you bought if you don't like it at all...

more likely...it is bright as hell and lighter than the hosts w/ sla included...

i'd go with the black one...because sooner or later I'd break the handle on the yellow one

I've always wondered how it would work out if you dropped an sst-90 into a light like that - should be relatively easy to add a big computer heatsink right to the back. I know the reflector isn't designed for it, but I bet it would make one hell of a flood light!

Thanks dthrckt!

I was going to buy the yellow but now I realize that you are right... the handle looks stronger.

The seller answered my questions (the three of the top are mine :D) and he says that it has a metallic reflector (not plastic) and a glass optic.

So, I think the price is very cheap!

To convert it into HID, is the same procedure of car's HID conversion right?

Got a 55w halogen Peak handheld flashlight anybody got a guide?

What do you want to do with it?

Save some more, get a Thor or solarforce spotlight, bigger reflector and have space inside for the electronics, if you save even more you could mod a lightforce blitz

Or just buy a L35 from titanium innovations or a Stanley 35w HID and enjoy!

This is my HID spotlight I made a while back

Well I really want to mod this with a 55w HID kit. I will buy a Thor or those 9incher another time. I got this one free and they look really good for HID modding.
