Here are my measurements. I wanted to do the measurements again before sharing, but it seems unlikely to happen in the near future. So I share it here.
In the spreadsheet, I have included a copy of measurements that I saw on reddit for reference. G2 and G3 measurements are mine. It is not perfect, but I tried to be consistent.
I think two Opples (possibly produced and calibrated in the same way) should produce similar numbers. The problem is that whether it correctly represents the reference CCT.
I really like Opple and I think they are useful. But, most of my use is to compare my measurements with my own. I get consistent readings when I measure it over and over again, but it doesn’t mean it is close to correct measurements. So, I find it uncomfortable comparing with other people’s measurements, because it seems to be off by more than reasonable margin or error.
^ Seems like it. It’s would all become relative to one of your more reliably spec’d light.
So far, my lights that were repeatedly tested seemed to ranged within a very thin variation — so my Opple III Pro seems precised as far as measurements within my group.
This is how I set my impromptu measurements. Lux is a bit off, since it’s actually 1.2meters, rather than the regular 1.0meter between the sensor and the tip of the bezel.

I use much closer distance, about 6-10” and I do it in full darkness.
My goal is to get Lux values above 10,000… for example, here is one of my sw45k measurements:

note there will also be differences between hotspot and spill, in a light w reflector… whereas a light w Tir will tend to blend those elements to a different result
I dont expect my measurements of my sw45k LEDs to match. Each LED is different. Even LEDs that are side by side in the same reel, will not be identical in CCT and DUV
I dont expect my Opple readings, of my LEDs, in my lights, to be identical to other peoples LEDs, in other lights, tested at different output levels.
The value of the Opple is to illustrate change, particularly for before and after an LED swap, for example:

btw, when I look at the Dot on the spectrum chart, I can visualize the Tint by looking at the color of the location where the dot is placed.
Good discussion. Just to add some data points comparing my two Opple V3’s - they track close enough on the 2 most important parameters to me, CCT and Duv (because these 2 reflect the beam color of my specific LED).
All tests done with light on tripod and Opple in fixed position. I lined them up so Opple’s sensor is at the middle point of the reflector to ensure I am measuring center of beam and not some tint shift at corona. IMvHO this is the most important factor to have repeatable results.

All of my “4500K” 519A read in the 4100-4200 range (4200 being if I play around and sample the coldest CCT part of the beam pattern, tbh)

Opple asked for opinions about a new version. They seemed to be quite serious about it. The chip the v3 uses has reached EOL.
How do you contact Opple’s lightmaster product manager to tell them to add an r9 sensor for the v4? What’s their email?

There is a 630 nm sensor in the V3 already if I’m not mistaken, but its value cannot be translated into a precise R9 figure. The problem is too few sensors for the unknown spectrum, and this won’t change for a simple device like the Opple Lightmaster.
The LM can make quite good guesses, but you never know when a guess is good and when it’s not since the Opple don’t know either.
Do You have some information about the V4 version? Price, abilities?
Is the V3 version still worth buying?
Buy one if you want one. No one here knows when or even if a V4 will appear.
So is the v2 version not worth buying at all? Cuz it’s like $15. I don’t need flicker and could live without CRI. If the CCT and lux was just as accurate I’d go for it.

I don’t have the V2 to compare to the V3, unfortunately.
Purely anecdotal: I vaguely recall someone reporting his v2 doesn’t match v3.
Anecdotal personal experience: My two v3’s follow each other closely for Duv. And both follow closely enough measurements of reviewers.
I would buy v3 only. As mentioned, the key to good measurement, for me anyway, is to fix positions of both light and Opple (so that hotspot shines on sensor perpendicularly and no movement relative to each other - I use tripod head for light), and wait about 5 minutes for LED/light to heat up, especially for Nichia 519a, which changes a lot with increased heat and increased output.
