The black thing on right side is a tripod head with Velcro strap for flashlight, sold for a couple bucks on AliExpress.
For consistency, I never hand held for measurements, the way that Simon did on some video he posted . Just kidding.
Once the light is set up, I turn on light and record multiple measurements at different outputs and note time after turning on (Duv drops with time, from heat).
Damn I want one of these things. It doesn’t help that Opple says they aren’t going to make any more so ‘get em while you still can’. I wonder how long they’ve been saying that for and how much truth there is in it, or when/if a new one comes out there’s going to be 5000 of these for $15 suddenly available. Its an effective sales tactic though, its working on me.
I have two of the Light Master Pro 3’s since I was worried they would be discontinued forever. Now I may give them away to friends if the 4 does everything and more.
I’ll do some comparisons when I get it; see how accurate they are to each other.
Here are the internal photos from their FCC filing in February. The new version has a different sensor with more channels, which appears to be either an AS7343 or AS7341.
Android…
I just installed the updated app on a different phone and it still only showed the II and the III during the setup. So I don’t know if the April 10th app update on Android is related to the new one (4) or how that’s going to work. And that phone is running Android 13. Supposedly with Android 12 some Bluetooth devices won’t require location to be turned on but it’s app specific. So this app still requires location to be turned on.
The product manual says to use the “Ouxiangjia” app, aka Opple Home. Both versions recently received an update to support the Light Master IV.
Edit: Opple Home doesn’t detect my III or show the Light Master IV as a potentially compatible device, despite the update claiming it’s supported. The “Opple Smart Lighting” app also supports the Light Master III now, and includes CS and EML, but not Duv calculation unfortunately.
The “Opple Home” app looks like it requires a phone number and or maybe an email to proceed through the setup. So I stopped at that point. I’ll just wait till we get the device in hand.
