Optics//lenses. Where to begin.

Hey I’ve gotten a new 90° headlamp, an astrolux 02. It came equipped with a throwy reflector and a clear glass lens. I’d like to swap in a beaded TIR to not blind people, and I could use the flood more anyways. Does anyone have suggestions for what I should put into it? The options are overwhelming and I’m not sure how these will affect the beam.

Measure the reflector, and then look for a similar size Tir

here is an example

Thanks, and what do the degree’s mean? I’m seeing options from 5° to 140°

the degrees of the beam angle… I dont like the very wide, I buy 25 degree, or 30 degree…

I just changed the LED in this AAA Ti Tool and installed a Tir for the first time in this model. It works!

Got it, thanks! And nice torch, looks like a bic flame!

another variable in Tir shopping criteria
is the size of the base opening of the lens

they are designated either XP size (for small 3535 footpring LEDs)
or XM size (larger opening, but can also work with smaller LEDs)

There are also striped surface TIR lenses that put out a rectangular beam that may help with not blinding people.

Here’s an example from the Convoy flashlight Store: 20MM TIR lens ,striped surface for 3535 LED
