basically the new one is fatter, heavier, and brighter, and has strobe
the original is slimmer, lighter, has a pocket clip I prefer, I do wish it had strobe instead of SOS
IF you plan to mod the Original, there are reflectors that work, and they can accept the new driver that has strobe
