Osram Oslon 4000K SSL80, 4500K Square, 5000K SSL150

Back to those Osram emitters. Djozz has been doing all the detailed work, so I'm just following the path he's been carving out. What if we never discovered the Nichia 219 because nobody looked past Cree emitters? Today I did a little comparison of three Osram LEDs.

4000K SSL80 (92 CRI) typ.96

4500K Square (80 CRI) typ..83

5000K SSL150 (80CRI) typ.82

All three are mounted on noctigons in Convoy S2 18350 hosts with 2.1A driver.

I did have a 4000K Oslon Square mounted (92CRI), but I hated it, and needed the host. I Can generally appreciate the nuances of different tints, but I thought the 4000K Square was extremely ugly and green compared to the 4000K SSL. I have beam shots of it in a different post.

I built a triple with the 4000K SSL150 (92CRI) and love it. It's been my new EDC for a couple of weeks. The 4000K SSL 80 and 150 are exactly the same except for the angle.

Left to Right

4000K SSL80 4500K Square 5000K SSL150

I like all three. The 4500k and 5000K are only 80CRI (typ. 83)but that's nothing to sneeze at. For those who like a higher CRI without an overly warm tint, you might appreciate these.

I'm saving my last Osram Triple board for that 4500K 96 CRI djozz has been promising us.

4500K looks nice to me.

Nice beam shots on the comparisons!

I think the 80+ CRI is quite sufficient for my needs, but anything above that is just icing on the cake….

I think I ordered some of those 4000K squares too, they are not a nice tint compared to these by any means… Keep us posted about the 96+ CRI 4500K as well…

Thanks for the testing…

Nice comparisons, Ouchy! It is nice to see that the ssl80 makes such a good hotspot in a reflector light.

So there’s still a task for me I guess. I have a couple of those 4500K 96CRI ssl80’s leftover, they are too cool to my liking, that is why I did nothing with them as yet. But I will try them anyway.

How did you get those? All the suppliers I know (mouser, digitec, etc) have them listed as “non stocked”, and I really don’t want to have to shop all over Europe. It’s funny, we have free trade with the US and most of Asia, but Europe is a no no for shopping.

found some in US,

I got all my Osram leds via rs-online, they have indeed just european websites, it is based in the UK. And as a private person you can not buy there but I am allowed to buy via work, if not too often.

Good find troisanh, I hope it is easy to buy there.

I’m working on a triple SSL80 4500k 96CRI typ., and am curious to compare it with the 219A 4500K 92CRI. I’m not sure how the SSL80 will behave in the triple Carclo actually, might act strange…

They have a Canadian site. I made a test order of three LEDs to see shipping cost…$15 DHL. I didn’t go any farther, but would probably have HST on top of that. I’ll have to look around this site to see if they have any other things I need to offset shipping costs.

Funny. That site lists every SSL 80 and 150 “discontinued”, except that one.

the 4500K looks real good. any links to where those can be acquired?

This seems to be the only place that has it.

Edit: sorry, do you mean the one in the beam shot? If so, I got it at Mouser

Very interesting emitter. The SSL 80 has an 80 degree optic, even narrower than the Cree XR-E, perhaps it would make an excellent “thrower”

specsheet:

The SSL80 throws well because of the dome shape, but it lacks the output of a hard driven and dedomed XP-G2. Osram is getting much closer to Cree nowadays though…
