Our Friends in England

Well, gords, good luck: Updated:

Hope that aluminium holds up as good as aluminum in that high winds!

In aseriousness though, best of luck to everyone in the path of the storm. May fully charged lithium ions and high outputting crees be with you in this time

it’s knocked out a cell tower near us, so I cant upload the witty photo I wanted too.

But don’t worry, the northwest is generally pretty stable, all things considered, we should be right.

It’s the north east and south west that are really looking like their going to get it.

We also don’t tend to get many power cuts, but my camping gear is functional so we’ll be able to cook and its really not cold yet, so heating shouldn’t be an issue.

Cheers for the concern though, guess I’ll keep this thread updated, the big storm is meant to hit tonight. We’ll see what that brings.

i live in south england and that was “bye-bye” to my newspaper this morning as i came out of the newsagaents, straight out of my hand lol. and its going to get a whole lot worse… :frowning:

I’m just above London. Bright sunshine and it’s blowing a bit. The worse should hit Monday morning early.

Cleared our garden yesterday, put away the table and chairs. Time to batten down the hatches lads. Stay save.

I live in the south west, not much to report yet just some heavy rain.

50 miles from London here.

All of my nimhs are charged should they be needed… Plus we have plenty of candles.

Gosh, I figured a barely inhabitable rock in the middle of the North Atlantic would have nicer weather than that...

(sorry, couldn't resist... I know what it's like when weather tries to kill you, lost half my roof & neighbor's house was chopped in half by a tree in hurricane Katrina - and I live 150 miles inland! no fair!! )

Don’t forget that link is an article in the express, so it will have already been exaggerated by a factor of 2.

I’m just surprised that they’re not blaming it on immigrants or linking it to Diana’s death.

Ah yes the Express newspapers three main headlines, weather, immigrants and Diana’s death, spot on there mate.

I hate the UK media, and I really hate most newspapers.

Anyway, was nice and sunny this morning, but the rain has started and it’s starting to gust a bit now and then.

Batteries charged just in case……

I’ve been adjusting all the doors that don’t fit properly today, its been on my list of things to do for a bit.

I also checked the green house and summer house and braced a sagging gate, its blustery but hardly anything to worry about, and after all, what the smeg, we’re insured should the worst happen, there’s no tree’s close enough to threaten the house and we don’t get hurricanes on our peaceful little isle

I am slightly worried. :~

Before I started this thread I wasn’t worried at all. Now I’ve got both chargers going and fished out a couple of torches from the garage!

Well i’ve been to my mums, both sisters, all 3 aunts, 6 nieces, my daughters mums and i’ve only had to fix an old dears fence next door at my mums, i checked if all had heat & candles and they had the ones i sorted out for past years from the snow storms, so all’s good, it’s just pissing down alot! And it’s been blowing a gale for a day or two now.

Garage, what are they doing in there!!! You’ll never find them out there.

If all else fails I’m coming round you house

You are more than welcome.

I’m sure most BLFers have shelf queens. Well I have shoeboxinthegarage queens. That includes cells, chargers, DMM and sundry bits’n’bobs.

There are torches in the house but these are the DX cheapies for finding stuff under the sofa and at the back of cupboards.

Of course, there is the EDC as long as I remember to “C” it!

I’m near Heathrow. Its only predicting 50mph gusts here. I doubt we’ll get a power out……… :frowning:

It is going to hit the Netherlands too tomorrow morning, will I finally experience my first ever power cut here? (I had a few power cuts in Leicester, England when I worked there for a while 20 years ago, it was quite common there and then).

Heheh, this has got to be the only collection of people who are secretly hoping for a power cut so they can put their countless lights to use!

Strangely the storm is missing us completely here, usually we’re the first to get battered by whatever the Atlantic throws.
This one seems to be circling around Ireland in a strange way, hope it’s not too bad for you guys*

*But still bad enough to make flashlights necessary.
