Why is the Surefire lights so way overpriced for what you actually get ?
my brother has a SF 6P, its looks like its well built with quality, but not any more than some of the lights i already have like my Nitecores, Olights, Fenix, and even some of the better built Trustfires i have, and its mediocre incadescent output is around a 20 year old Maglite 4D level, and it eats batteries like it gave up a diet, though i see them buttered up on CPF in the past.
Back then, no doubt they were the shizzo. I was a big fan. Had nearly the entire line back before the kl4 came out. The L4 was the last surefire I bought cuz once I got the taste for a fairly bright LED, I wanted more….more than sf was willing to give at the time.
Reason why so expensive? Good quality. Good customer service. Made in America with American wages.
SF Makes good quality lights - I won't take that from them. One of the other reasons that they're so expensive, however, is that they have a huge profit margin. And by huge, I mean HUGE.
Lowes has the new 320 lumen G2X pro for $59 and they are warm tint now. Mine will fit an unprotected 17670, so no battery issues. I have maybe a half dozen lights only, but the new G2X is a keeper. There are deals to be had sometimes, which makes them worthwhile.
Most generic direct ship lights seem not very solidly built, seen all kind of issues like reflector/pill rattling around, unseated PCBs, etc. This makes them suitable for around the house and show pieces only. I wouldn’t trust them as emergency lights or even camping, let alone anything where life would depend on it.
All of the above I think, plus the fact that they do great marketing and I understand they get the law enforcement bucks and govt. money. Or at least they used to, definitely indirectly. All the *fire lights are named after Surefire, about the only name that the general public kind of recognizes.
