That sounds good. I definately have to get into the whole driver stuff some more, at least beeing able to flash a new firmware onto them would mean a huge step for me.

A red LED that blinks out the battery status in low brightness or just a low brightness pulse every 5-10 would be really nice, it would look very cool and it would remind you that you haven’t locked out the light mechanically.

New guy here. PM'd Nitro to see what he has left.

While I'm waiting, what host do you think is best: The BLF Special @ ~$28, or the generic for ~$18? Aren't I just going to be throwing away the "special" stuff from the BLF light, or are there some fit and finish goodies the BLF light has that makes it worth the extra 10 bucks?

Edit: What size driver is in this rascal? From the looks of that ring, I need a single-sided driver, correct?

Thanks

I got mine as part of the original groupbuy for $20. I’m glad I have one that actually says “BLF Special Edition” because I think it’s cool, but I would not pay an extra $9 for it now. I think you are correct that we don’t use any of the “Special” parts for this triple build.

God I miss my Hardinge Tool Room lathe.

As I look over the list I see only copper triples have shipped—What is the status for the Quads and Aluminum parts

It depends on how hard you want to drive the LEDs. For ultimate power choose the copper heat sink with a copper DTP mcpcb and one of the FET direct drive drivers. For still powerful but not extreme(4-5A) get one of the aluminum heat sinks and a 12 x 7135 driver. Either driver can be had with dual pwm channels for efficient low modes and great high modes. For 3A or less you can use an inexpensive 20mm alu mcpcb but you would still need at least the alu sink for a spacer.

RBD, I don’t have an X6 but I’m pretty sure a 12x7135 driver will not fit?

I think it will fit if its 17mm, the head has alot of room enough for 2 drivers if needed...edit just checked u have around 8.90mm of space

Copper was my first choice, but I PM'd him and aluminum is all that's left. So long as it is a snug fit (sides and bottom) I should be able to move the watts to the light's head. Snug fit and some AS, and I should be good to go. One of the two won't be very hot as I'm going with XPG2s (90CRI WW).

I've moved watts with aluminum before. This one was right at 165 watts with all the LEDs on:

I'm going with Mtn Electronic's single-sided FET driver. Of course, it isn't in stock, but my light isn't here either as the Chinese are out partying for New Years.

Because of the lack of clearance around the 7135’s? The stock spring looks taller than the chips.

In your case i would go with the host instead.

Are the quads not ready yet?

Not yet i had ordered the wrong material for the quads and lost my turn in line at the machine shop, every order will be out this week.

Meaning, the quads will be ready soon, or the triples will be out, and still waiting a while on the quads?

the aluminum triple and copper triples got done first because i had the right material that why u see me mailing them to the guys who had ordered them, i will be receiving the quads in a day or two and they will be mailed out around Wednesday of this week. Sorry for the delay guys just trying to get every thing right

2nd post will show if yours been shipped

They just got done can u guys handle that much copper

Might have to put a handle on my X6

Ill have them make a copper tail cap to balance out the weight; )

Might as well make an 18650 extension and load it with a 2s2p copper quad board.

In progress already ;)
