? I identify by country, what would I need to change?
By the way, when I used “Kootenai”, or “Switzerland”, or “Sussex”, as examples of American counties that would not help people know what country they are in, they are all counties in the United States.
We have only one admin, the site owner. He’s known as sb or Mr. Admin. Someone brought up requiring user locations to him, he said nope. :cowboy_hat_face:
Sometimes we might get a guy who asks if he can get 18650 batteries shipped to him so that he can fight off killer Kangaroos attacking his house at night, or a pack of platypuses keeping his family trapped in the car and trying to gnaw their way through the windshield, and you wonder what the heck country he is in, Belgium, or Canada, or what?
I am located in a similar place to yourself, but around here we live in igloos, we respond to everything with Eh, Tim Hortons is a coffee shop and not a fisherman, we embrace the Red Green show (because of his use of advanced technology), and we have heard of running water and electricity
If it were me, the reasoning would be simply that people should have a choice. We also have the choice not to answer those people’s questions until they do provide such info. Peer pressure is powerful enough; we don’t need Admin pressure.
Nicely put DavidEF. Its a personal choice thing that we will or will not share with others.
Now to get back fighting those Platypus to save the family. They dont make windscreen glass like they used to. Either that or the Platypus teeth are getting tougher.
That’s how I feel about it. It shouldn’t be manditory and forced on anyone. It’s just a nice thing to do and makes the site make more sense and is easier to help each other. I’ve been with this site since the early days. This site has always been about not pushing the members around and giving us a little freedom. It works well as long as we all behave and treat each other with respect. We don’t need heavy handed rules and power hungry admins. I like the way this site is run, I’m not asking for any rule changes. I’m just asking our members to consider putting their location in their profile to make conversations easier. If you choose not to do it, that’s ok too.
I’m as paranoid as the next guy but I just can’t convince myself that people are after my flashlight collection and if they know where I live, I’m in some kind of danger. LOL.
This personal choice type thing is a load of bollocks!
What are you worried about, it’s not as if you’re exactly anonymous by being on any online forum?
I could understand someone having major concerns if you had to state your full name and address, such a big deal made about having to state which country you live in!
