Please recommend a Dlink or shackle

Hi all,

I’m looking for a carabiner-esque Dlink shackle or eyelet bolt I can use to attach this light to belt loops, paracord, carabiners, etc. The hole itself is about 3/16" (4.5mm) so I’m thinking a 5/32" or 4mm bolt would work, but have no idea where to look for a reputable supplier. The diameter of the tail is a bit under ⅞" (22mm).

Tempered and corrosion resistant would be nice, as I intend to carry it with exposure to engineering liquids, salty air, that kind of thing.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

I would chamfer the edges a little bit and just tie a very short piece of paracord on it.
Either a very short loop with whatever hooky carabiner you want to put around that.
Or put a knot on one end of the Paracord and send it through and attach the other end permanently to whatever hooky carabiner thing you want.

I would guess that the narrow diameter of the hole Vs width required will preclude the use of engineering/sailing shackles, so you need something more “EDC hardware”.

“Titanium D shackle” on AliExpress returns quite a few products but most have inner width of 16mm, without wanting to sound like a shill for them, Advance Bravely has this in 20mm and 25mm options:

I suppose you could also use one of those “wire keychain” things, plastic coated would help reduce the damage to the light.

I might spring for those, they look good, with hopefully reduced risk of galvanic corrosion. I was looking for a version with a slightly thicker bar, I imagine the constant rattling will eventually cause what happens to watches when the pins are too narrow, or the Arc flashlights with the integral lug…Maybe not in my lifetime, but I suspect this light will outlast me by several generations, lol. I’ll probably just pick up that Ti one and stick a fishing lure tube or equivalent in there, cheap and easy enough to replace if it gets too worn down.

Thanks @gravelmonkey and @Oli for the tips!

Stainless steel sailing shackle ought to work?

something like that, I was hoping for a more snug setup, but I can just put little spacer padding in there if necessary

Pinched off a web listing, at the width of the throat required (20mm) the diameter of the “bolt” is too wide for the light, as these have load ratings to adhere to.

This has been the issue for me; the “bolt” is either too thick or very narrow…but at least the “narrow” can be remedied with sleeves. I’m definitely going to go for that Ti one. I found some more rounded ones I like more, they look like over ear headphones, but the spacing is too small…

thanks for doing the legwork, @gravelmonkey @RichH

I was wondering if something cool could be fashioned from a length of copper wire in the correct diameter? It’s very malleable and solders easy. Could be fun twisting a loop fastening and polishing with a Dremel?

might be fun, but I’d prefer to stay away from copper, brass, etc. because of galvanic corrosion to aluminum. Also, copper ain’t cheap right now, and it’s kind of soft to function as a mounting link

I did see that “wide” options of the shackles Rich linked do exist but I’m not sure the dimensions still work.

I imagine it would be straightforward to print/make two tubes with shoulders to slot into the lanyard hole on the light, the height of the shoulder would be designed to take up and lateral space to stop it rattling left and right. Pop one in each side of the lanyard hole, then stick the D link over them and they won’t fall out.

Obviously, diameter of said tubes can be dialed in to fill layard hole to reduce rattle.

Anyway, happy to help, I spend too much time trying to find obscure bits on AliExpress anyway! Let us know your impressions of the parts you’ve chosen.
