I’m looking for a pocketable LEP or LED with a small beam spot size at 25ft/8m if they exist.
I use a Mateminco FW1 to point at things on construction sites and houses but it’s too big for EDC.
A smallish light that is less bright than my FW1 could be great for inside jobs where I don’t want it too bright and I could save my big FW1 for the outside jobs with sunlight.
The reviews don’t list the spot size at relevant distances so I’m looking for recommendations.
Look for more pocketable LEPs–if any light can satisfy your requirement, an LEP is the only chance. LED based lights simply have too much divergence. But smaller LEP’s won’t be as bright or tight as FW1, that’s just a fundamental limitation of optics.
BTW you can roughly estimate LEP beam diameter at 8m by 18*sqrt(lm)/d, where lm is output and d is ANSI throw, all units in m. It will be an underestimate due to the beam being non-uniform in intensity, but hopefully still useful.
Or you could spend $5 on a green laser pointer that would probably do a better job at pointing. Assuming laser pointers greater than 1mw are legal in your area.
