I currently greet some newbies with a pic of an attractive woman.
What if instead I used a non-offensive, but possibly creepy, pic from a horror movie?
Which do you like more?
I think people go overboard sometimes with making spaces welcoming to women, I feel this is not such a case. The attractive women thing is pretty off-putting I imagine to women. Horror movie or nothing, but I’m also new here…
It looks like most BLF members don’t like the idea of pics from horror movies, which is what I kinda figured.
I am open to different ideas for greeting pics.
Whatever the idea is, though, has to be popular with BLF members and I have to be interested in the idea as well.
I enjoy the process of finding the “perfect” image with Google Images and Yandex Images.
This is my favorite idea I have read so far, and I have been reading every suggestion.
If I like an idea, I’ll say something.
If I don’t like an idea, I’ll most likely not say anything.
(I’m really picky, and I don’t want to say “no” over and over again because that’s too negative.)
Should the time-honoured greeting style change, changing it to match assumed straight preference makes it overtly sexual as opposed to each user getting the same category of image. User’s gender, even if disclosed, does not inform their preference.
That said, I don’t think there is an expectation to be presented with sexually attractive content upon signing up for a light forum, the best, most inclusive greeting should be something non-sexual. Cute animals, gorgeous landscapes, impressive feats of engineering, or indeed very cool lights, there’s so much non-sexually attractive imagery to choose from.
Or we can post horrible men pictures too, like in horror movies but with real horrible face? Something like halloween funny pictures, with really horrible natural face? That could be funny
