The last couple of days I’ve been looking into sbt90.2 lights and I even have a couple candidates, but everywhere I read I see that most portable sbt lights can’t manage full on turbo for more than a few seconds so I’m a bit bummed out.
What I’m looking for?
first and foremost something with an SBT90.2 or equivalent throw AND lumens, multi-emmiters welcome, I wanna be wowed
able to handle an impressive turbo for at least a couple minutes
smallish size, let’s say max around the size of the Convoy 4x18a, smaller=better
18650 or 26650 powered would be nice as I already have some of those, but 21700 or other (if included) are fine. Whether single cell or multi doesn’t matter much
I prefer TIRs over reflectors if possible
Anduril, aux lights and other fun stuff are most welcome
the cheaper the better, hope to keep it at or under 100$, but can stretch it to ~130-150 if there is a good reason
So far I’ve shortlisted the following:
Wurkkos TS30S Pro
Convoy 4x18a SBT90.2
Manker MK37
Noctigon DM11 SBT90.2 (not sure about runtimes here and in the other Hank lights)
Emisar D4SV2 W2
Emisar D1/D1K SBT90.2
Is there some light I’m missing? Any multi-sft40 in the budget realm? Or other multi-w2 lights? CRI, CCT and tint are mostly unimportant, this light’s sole purpose will be bringing me joy by rocketing lotta lumens far away
The 90.2 pulls a LOT of Amps, at least three cells powering it is highly recommended. I mean, I do have em in X6’s and small Sofirn tube lights but yeah, cell drains very quickly, heat in the smaller lights is also very quickly intense.
@sp5it… gotta trust that face! Now I have to check out the K75! Lol
Of all of these I ended up selling most of them and keeping just the Manker MK37. It’s just big enough to keep the big 90.2 LED powered for fairly long, yet surprisingly small for a 3cell light with a big TIR.
The TS30S Pro really is the best bang for the buck option if you want an SBT90.2 emitter though.
I don’t think that will do what you’re after. If I want to play around lighting stuff far away, my Convoy Z1 with an SFT40 and 8 Amp driver is much more fun and more capable. You won’t get any spill with the Z1 though- you do with the D4SV2 W2. (I haven’t played with anything that has an SBT90.2)
Convoy L7 with a shorty tube. As far as run times on turbo a couple minutes is asking a lot from the SBT90.2. I love my L7 but my favorite is the X9L. Fits in my pocket and I have 6500 lumens with throw of 810 meters. From my driveway to Highway 395 is 1003 feet and it lights up the end. I only use turbo in short burst with all my flashlights. The L7 holds the longest just do to mass. Hope you find what you are looking for.
@sp5it - the K75 is 3 times the size and budget, so not really but seems like a cool lumen howitzer indeed
@DB_Custom the TS30S Pro does look like the best/most reasonable option so far
@Valynor - that D1 handles that SBT inferno surprisingly well… maybe the DM11 would be able to take it similarly or better?
@818nto - not hell bent on the SBT but it seems it’s hard to meet or beat it’s performance. The MK37 looks the coolest as well but is quite a bit more pricy. Still considering it though. And another “vote” for the TS30S Pro ^^. And how did the DM11 SBT90 behave? How long til thermal stepdown? How was the reach compared to the MK37? Looks- and price-wise it’s right up my alley
@Majoroverkill - I know that’s much, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have a problem . But a literal couple, eg. 2 mins, seems reachable. That L7 is slightly too large for my liking but not rejecting it altogether yet. The X9L steps down way too fast on the vid above and I don’t love the looks
I just stumbled over a Convoy 3x21a triple SFT40, 20$ cheaper than the SBT90 option, seems to have similar performance but slightly longer turbo. However there’s almost no reviews for it yet (at least any I managed to find). What do You guys think?
Also, what can we expect of the upcoming Nichia 719A? Compared to an SFT40 for example?
The DM11 is great was a great light. Noticeably less throw than the MK37 and way faster thermal step-down, but it’s also much smaller, lighter, and closer to actually being “pocketable”
I don’t know the thermal step-down times since I don’t have it anymore, but I bet you can find some video comparisons on YouTube and/or the video already linked here is probably representative since the DM11 is pretty close in size and driver type (FET) to the FW21.
