Any recommendations on a bike handle bar light? I need it by Thursday of this week. I have seen some on Amazon but am concerned about brightness. The last time I bought a light on this forum I was blown away with the brightness.
Let me know if any of you have one for sale or can link me to one that I could get quickly.
You could always attach a good waterproof light to your bike
We use
Son a Convoy gray C8 ww with OP reflector on med.
Wife a Convoy black C8 we stock on med
Me the Kronos X6 on 4 out of 8
Bought a couple of elastic bands with a thicker middle part and open loops on either side from AE for very little, they accommodate even a SRK without a problem but when we are in town the C8s and X6 are easier to pocket.
I’ve reviewed a couple of ThorFire lights recently (BL02 and BL13). The lights themselves have been impressive but other parts of the package (battery packs and chargers) were the same as you’d get with any other Chinese made budget bike light.
Mtbr has an awesome bike light forum. These guys are super knowledgable. Theres a lot of crap bike lights and there’s a lot of quality ones. Amazon is not immune to selling crap so do your research.
Fenix BC30, or the BC30R depends on your budget. Jetbeam BR10 GT is budget minded.
You can have less expensive lights from overseas but not by Thursday.
Try Nashbar
Nashbar has this on sale Cateye an additional 20% off at checkout, may not make to you by Thursday though
I second MTBR’s Lights & Night Riding forum (I’m active there). You’re going to have a hard time getting something by Thursday! Try Action LED Lights. Top service, great products, active on the MTBR forum, and probably the most likely person to get you a light that quick (with express shipping). You might find some refurb deals leftover too. Those lights aren’t very “budget” but you never mentioned what your budget is.
Only good “budget” option on Amazon I am aware of is the Revtronic (used to be Nitefighter) BT40S if you can still get it (looks like you can). It’s sold direct from Revtronic (Nitefighter) but stocked by Amazon for quick shipping. Good light, though not perfect. Good battery pack and charger though. See the review thread at MTBR, or link to My Bike Lights Thread in my signature for a quick review and beamshots.
I wouldn’t recommend the flashlight route now that I’ve tried it myself, except maybe on the helmet as a “thrower” for looking ahead. Depends on your type of riding though. Mounted on the bars the light will bounce around on any sort of rough surface unless you use a very solid mount. And your average flashlights don’t output the most appropriate beam pattern. I found my Convoy M1 XM-L2 @ 3A to be too narrow of a beam while throwing out further than I needed.

P.S. I used to live in Lancaster and visited York frequently. In fact my first “real bike” (still have it) came from the old Schwinn shop downtown.
Just last night I rode w/ the BLF A6 on the handlebar while a buddy did so with a Convoy S2+.
Both using the Fenix ALB-10 mounts. I try to night ride as much as I can and use various
18650 lights both on handlebar and helmet. Usually the more floody light on the bar and more
throwy on the helmet. Beam pattern preference really depends on the type of trails that you ride.
I ride a full suspension bike w/ 160mm travel front/rear and there’s no bounce w/ the Fenix mount.
Same on my 100mm full suspension bike.
Edit: the Fenix mount has a feature that allows the attached flashlight to rotate left/right some. Well, of the 3 mounts
that I’ve messed with, 2 mine and 1 my buddy’s, 1 is rock solid but the other 2 are slightly loose, perhaps 1mm of play or less.
I tighten it up by wedging a very thin layer of material (I think I used a twist tie) to keep it from vibrating which causes the beam to jitterbug.
A minor fault and easy enough to fix. Solid otherwise.
Very bright, and very well liked in the mountain biking forums. I wouldn’t mind selling mine to you. My bike got stolen a few months ago, and I don’t see myself buying a new one anytime soon. The light is just gathering dust.
Garry, I dread my return there as my uncle turned 100 last xmas. But he’s still going strong, working in the yard for many hours daily, his memory is perfectly intact, his handwriting is handsome and he drinks 2 shots of scotch before every dinner. Think I need me some scotch tonight
I have lots of relatives, on both sides, all over PA; York, Lancaster, Harrisburg, Reading, Allentown… and lots in VA as well.
Each time there, I don’t have sufficient time to visit everybody and each trip ends up causing much drama that lingers for years/decades.
Last time I was in NY for couple weeks with many days of idle time, I didn’t even tell any of them I was nearby and did not even visit one… :-(.
Thanks for the couch, go ahead and send me an invoice…
Back on topic; rode again last night and lights/mounts were as usual. Going again tonite. The usual loop; ~10 miles, 1300’ of elevation.
