Promo Code for PF01/PF02 and ask reviewers for PF04

It’s usually half presses to access the different modes.
Example. Full press is on in default mode. .moonlight.
half press then full press is high.
2 half presses then full is strobe.

Ok, so I got my PF01 today and I have a few quick impressions.

1) The “Attack Bezel” isn’t as big of an issue as it appears in the photos. It’s scalloped but the tips are blunt and don’t snag on the pocket.

2) The mode switching (at least on mine) isn’t super reliable. Sometimes it takes extra clicks to switch modes. In reality this isn’t a huge issue but it’s worth noting.

3) If the body was a bit longer it could be a 2AAA light. The body is fairly long for a 1AAA (you won’t be putting this on your keys) even with the tail clicky.

4) The tint isn’t that bad actually. It’s a big less green than my Pelican 1920 which lives in my right pocket every day.

5) Next mode memory (ugh) Nope, just a long reset.

6) The threads and the oRing were lubricated and are reasonably smooth.

My camera (iphone) is being stupid or I would upload some pictures. The finish and pocket clip seem fine and for the price, if the finish becomes an issue I won’t lose any sleep over it.

It’s a good buy at a touch over $10 but if it had Moonlight, Low, High; with first mode memory it would be a perfect EDC light.

And yes, strobe in a light of this size and use is pretty much pointless.

1. So the “attack bezel” doesn’t have to be changed?
2. It changes mode when you quickly click off and back on. Or when it’s off, tab and release and tab again quickly to change mode.
3. I also think it a little bit long, will try to make it shorter.
4. Is it okay for you to take a picture?
5. Keep the light off over 2 seconds and then turn on, the output mode will get back to the High. Did you try it?
6. Glad to hear that.
Next batch will be released in February. It will have Moonlight, Low, High; with first mode memory.

About a week passed, how do you think about it now?

I got mine in the mail today. I’ll post my impressions of it later tonight.

So overall. It’s not too bad. The box is comes in is a little annoying because you can’t close it. Its held closed with a sticker, once you cut the sticker, the box won’t close. Not big deal….just an annoyance.

The light.

Fit and finish seem decent. No issues there.
Threads were clean and smooth, no lube though.
The switch on mine was a little vague. Sometimes there was a nice audible and tactile click, other times, not so much. But I like that I can have momentary on.
The beam…meh. It’s definitely cool white and mine is very white not blue or green. All good.
But there are lots of rings. I think that a lightly OP reflector might be nice to smooth it out just a little.

The bezel isn’t too aggressive and I think fine as is.

It’s a bit long, but I find it fits nicely in the hand at this length.

The clip is a little weak. Not sure I’d trust it to hold the light in a pocket.

Big issue is the plastic retaining ring in the tail cap. Tried to get it out to look at and maybe replace my switch and I
couldn’t get it out and ended up chewing it all up trying. So not at all pleased with that!! Aluminum upgrade??

Worth $11. Yes. With some tweaks I think that it will be worth $15…though I’d still like to pay $11

I would like to see Moonlight, High, Low for the UI. That with first mode memory would make it extremely useful and I think would encourage me to buy a couple more for me, and a couple more as gifts.

I would love to see it able to handle a 10440 battery. But, if that can’t happen…that’s ok I guess. As long as it gets the Moonlight, High, Low.

Like to have the head come off as well. rather than just the tail.

I’ve got some pics and stuff that I might post later if anyone wants. Beam shots etc.

Pics please!!! I would really appreciate it!!!

For the money this thing rocks!
The added length is actually a blessing as it fits in the shirt pocket perfectly. When they are too small they end up getting in the way.
The light has a Forward Clicky, select the mode you want via half clicks and them full click on to that mode.
Mine always resets to High.
The low is really a Medium High, needs to be a lot lower.
Strobe is …strobe, don’t need it, don’t want it.

Sucker has good throw, has good thick hot spot which blends into nice corona and then into a light final blend. White tint but not a harsh white.
I like it better with a NiMh than a Energizer Alkaline. Do not have a AAA lithium at this time, so can not comment on that output.
It is as bright on high with the NiMh as my Tank E009 on Med with a Efest 10440, so it is plenty bright.

Look forward to the updated model with Moonlight and no strobe.
Thanks!
Keith

Thanks for the review.

  1. Box will be improved.
  2. you are right, it’s bit long for keychain, but fits well in the hand. That’s what we want.
  3. I already told the factory to make the clip stonger, we will see how it turns out to be.
  4. Would you please take a pic of “plastic retaining ring in the tail cap”?

Thank you for sharing. I asked the engineer if it will accept 10440, the answer is hard to make it. I feel sorry about that.

Nice packaging for under $16 light.

HAPPY card and instruction manual.

I like it a lot. Nothing much to complain.

For the sake of science... I sacrificed my copy for teardown. Struggled for 45mins to teardown the head assembly due to loctite ... Simply no grip for the head. I have no choice but to go through brute force approach.

Cannot figure out how to remove the reflector and LED. I can see Fujik or white glue covered in the interior. I do not really recommended for mod unless you want going through the trouble.

High -

Low

PF01 comes with momentary switch. Simple Hi>Lo>Strobe modes. My switch works fine.

> I asked the engineer if it will accept 10440, the answer is hard to make it.

Yeah. And? Did your engineer design that rectangular board with the black blobs on it?
Got a circuit diagram?

Why do people become engineers?
Someone here would probably be glad to suggest improvements to solve this problem.

After a week or so of use I have found the following:

1) The pocket clip could be stronger, it has fallen out of my pocket a couple of times.
2) My particular light takes exactly 15 seconds (timed with a stopwatch) before the modes reset to the beginning.
3) The rest of my observations are the same as my first impressions.

As long as all of the components are rated at greater than 4V it should be fine, right? It might not have low voltage or reverse polarity protection but, so long as we put the battery in right and use protected cells, it should be ok. It might already have protection…that sure seems like a lot of components for a simple 1AAA light with 3 modes…

And is that a 14 pin IC next to the inductor??? I don’t believe I’ve actually seen a flashlight driver with something like that.

Hey freeme have you tried taking your trail cap apart? I just can’t get mine apart at all. Totally stripped it.
And your beam looks a hell of a lot nicer than mine. Mine you can see the led, then a endless ring around it, then a wider ring and finally the spill. Not very nice.

Looks good to me. Also, with 4.8 stars and 23 reviews it couldn’t be too terrible. The only obvious thing I see that I don’t like is the crenelations on the bezel.

I am baking my light in the sun right now. Appiled some black metal paint to cover those ugly marks. LoL. I will try stripping the tailcap later. Beam shots were taken about 50 cm away from wall. I just wanted to show the color for the beam.

Edited: Do not bother, this light is not mend to be taken apart unless you want to break something (retaining ring is plastic). Almost pierce my finger with my sharp tweezers during the process.

I’m glad that I wasn’t the only one having an issue with the stupid plastic retaining ring! I have spare switches and I was going to replace this one since it is pretty crappy…but I can’t! Annoying!

Here are a couple pictures.

With the Hugsby XP-1

Tried to get a shot of both beams about 18 inches from the wall. Cell phone camera so they don’t show much. Hugsby is warmer and has an OP reflector so is a bit smoother but is a narrower spill.

Just the PF01. I tried to get all the various rings in…but again…cell phone camera. There is a square-ish centre LED portion, then a small gap, then another very white area. Then a slightly yellow ring, and then a big spill area.

Maybe my example just isn’t as nice as some…I’m not really liking the beam on this one. Freeme’s beam looks like it is nicer than the one I have.
I find that the Hugsby is a nicer beam.

And I reaaaallly wish that I could get this thing apart so that I could replace the bloody tail switch!

And the more I use it, the more I really want the UI to be moon, high, low.

PF01 cool white tint is nice. I wish they upgrade it to XP-G2 for more output. This light barely warm up on high. I wonder if 2xAAA will be better.

I wish that it was a smoother beam…slight orange peel would improve it I think. At least the one I have could use it.
The parts of my beam that are white, I do like. I’m not sure why I have a yellowy area though. That part Im not as fond of!

I think that the 2xAAA is probably better. I might give it a try. But after spending on this one and not being super thrilled. I will probably not get it at least not until some improvements are made.

The next batch is supposed to get some improvements. So hopefully in a couple more batches there will be some of the things that I want in the light and I will buy another one, maybe the 2xAAA.

I’d like to see someone make it work with a 10440.
