(prototype) the GT Mini

At any rate, we make compromises in our flashlights, in our leds, in our cells, chargers…. like a multi-tool, you can never have all the preferred features in a single unit.

I will admit that I watched it a few times without the kids.

INcontheivable

Anyone else having any type GT Mini switch problems besides the people I mentioned above??

Hello everyone!
It’s my first post on this forum, even though I used to lurk for years.

Few weeks ago I did also buy GT Mini on banggood and it arrived a few days ago. Microswitch in my copy gave up pretty much straight away… Such a shame as it’s a great torch.
So you can add me to the list :frowning:

I did already write an email to banggood customer service, I’ll let you know what will their reply be.

Still waiting on the head from Neal nothing arrived yet… too me its weird that both the bigger gt had problems and now this, i hope they will make things right and not just empty promises…

P33, welcome aboard.

Can you do something for me? If you can remove the retaining ring that holds the boot over the switch can you place a thin semi-hard plastic piece inside the boot and put it back together, see if that makes it work? AND/OR can you test it with the boot removed? Just with your finger, activating the button on the switch?

I’m wondering if the rubber of the boot is too soft and not letting the switch action perform properly…

Makes me wonder if it’s a combination of a semi-rare soft boot and semi slow activation on some switches.

What do mean the bigger GT had problems? I follow that light a lot. The driver and switch on it seems pretty bulletproof. I don’t remember any such issues. Am I forgetting something?

I’ve heard back from Banggood CS and submitted the photos and video they asked for over the weekend.
During inspection I noticed very poor soldering on the batt + spring on the driver. So bad I believe it could be the cause of the low current and I can’t wait to reflow the solder and retest current but I don’t want to do anything till I get the [whole] claim resolved.

I’ll update when things progress, no word back since submitting the requested info.

Scratch me off that list. Mine doesn’t seem to have the switch problem anymore. Fixed itself I guess.

You can add me to that list as well teacher, but like RobertB, I have not had an issue with it over the last several days. I had messaged Neal about this issue and the diffuser fit issue and received a reply from him today. I’m going to continue to work it over the next several days to see if the problem returns. I cannot see the root of the issue necessarily correcting itself, whatever it may be. I’ll keep ya posted.

I will add though that of the two minis that I have, the light that had the issue is the one that the button light is not centered on. Not sure if that is a part of the problem but there is a defect there that at least interfaces with the issue at hand so can’t rule out the possibility.

One possible reason could be that the 2 metal surfaces that touch each other inside the switch has some tarnish or oxidation, etc… that is preventing good contact. Repeated use might wear the contacts back to bare metal again.

Most flashlights use tactile switches meaning you can feel when they are depressed and they pop back up. They usually have a metal dome that requires a certain amount of pressure to bend.

It’s like when you accidentally lean on a car fender and it pops in. You take the pressure off and it pops back to its original shape.

You couldn’t do that with my ’64 caddy

My switch seems to have fixed itself too. After a lot of switching, and letting the light run really hot a few times it seems to work normally again, fingers crossed. Neal did send a new driver after I requested that for back-up :+1:

:+1: … Excellent.

Mine arrived yesterday, of course I’m unlucky…
