Q-Beam mod to led

My supervisor who is a very hard worker and loves to fish, had an old Q-Beam he uses to navigate on early fishing trips in his boat that needed upgrading. I thought it may work with a spare led I had left over from the Cyclops, and you guys may enjoy the pics.

This is the new led.

.

.
It needed fresh air for cooling. Although moisture will shorten its life, it was getting trashed anyway.

This led fit and focused well and was easily adjusted with set screws.
It was worth the upgrade, but only for us guys who like to mod things. :smiling_imp:

Very nice mod cncman. Looks like it was a fun mod to do. Did your boys like it?

Those old Q Beams have a rugged housing and are tough.
Bet it will last longer than the boat it lives on.
Always nice to help out somebody at work who will appreciate the improved beam the next time they head out on the water before sun up.

Yes, it was much better and he liked it.
My supervisor is the best one I have ever had.

Thanks for posting. I like your straight-forward mod. I converted an old 100 watt halogen spotlight to 100 watt HID several years ago. The beautiful 10” reflector was practically begging to be used for something special. I still use it at least once a week, so Im sure your supervisor will enjoy the heck out of his.
