Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

If the screws were “tightly threaded through the PCB, that suggests to me that the PCB holes may still be sized to clear M2.5 screws.

So if M3 screws have been substituted without changing the drilling spec. for the PCBs, they can only be fitted by self-tapping their way into the PCB.

A correctly sized PCB hole should always clear the thread of the screw. 3mm hole for M3 screw.

Considering it’s early days that’s a worrying number of failed switch lights that have occurred!
Might cancel my backordered light if this continues. Really can not be bothered with a fight with BG to get things sorted.
Has this been raised with TF?

I found a pic from Tom E showing the prototype 2 switch.

It looks like a 4700 ohm resistor. Is this what is used on the production versions?

I seem to recall it was too bright and it was supposed to be changed to 10,000 ohm. Is this correct?

The Miller is handling any problems, not BG or TF.

I’m out, might come back to this at a later date if it’s confirmed a cause has been identified and fixed.

OP updated with:

First real Q8 flashlights arriving.

FIRST

IMPORTANT: DO NO EMAIL BANGGOOD CUSTOMER SUPPORT ABOUT SHIPPING< YOU WILL GET A BASIC RESPONSE THAT DOES NOT HELP YOU AT ALL. SUBMIT YOUR QUESTION IN THIS THREAD WRITING Question for Banggood above it (IN BOLD so I can easy spot it even when with a lot of new posts.

Collected questions:

When are we going to see stock again?

What happens with expedited shipping, paid for but not arriving sooner? (WE NEED A PIC OF SHIPPING LABEL WHEN IT ARRIVES TO BE ABLE TO WORK ON THIS! NO PIC OF LABEL PMMED WE CANT DO ANYTHING!) Answer pending, awaiting arrival of these Q8 lights and pictures of shipping label

SECOND

Relax about shipping of your order, it will get there. the dates mentioned on Banggood do not say anything other then the absolute latest, when the pre orders started it was not clear that th first would be send out so fast yet shipping started the same day and while it was expected that now after a week the shipping would commence, some already have their Q8 in hand. read FIRST again and please “order and forget” is much better for ones stress levelsthat constantly checking shipping status. JUST DONT DO IT!

Tracking is buggy at best, there is a long chain between you and your light, delays are possible at each link of that chain.

THIRD

Issues, please post your issues, or things you think that might be an issue. It will be added.

keep it at REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE ISSUES,what you THINK that COULD be an issue is very good to remember for yourself, no need to post about it.

REAL ISSUES FOUND

BEACON LED IN SWITCH

Beacon functionality of switch, erratic flickering instead of constant lighted switch (first use working good)

Beacon functionality of switch, no light from switch (first use working good)

amplificus started flickering after some time in use, confirmed issue video https://youtu.be/GSdDHodWk2U

saypat stopped working after an hour (please video?)

engber switch led issue, first run OK, then flickering started, now no more beacon at all (please video?)

amplificus intermittent switch light, doing testing to actually find the problem behind this, THANKS!

Perceived issues NOT CONFIRMED

SCREWS:

Screws. really not an issue, they do their job, are lower then the brass ring of the driver. One might want to change them, please discuss in Q8 modding topic https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/46241

Please stop talking about the screws in this topic unless there is a real issue in YOUR light with them.

Some tips on the screws, they are tight, use a properly fitting screwdriver and to be sure a rubber band to make the screwdriver fit even better while removing them.

Just wait, we need to know what is causing it before a solution an be found. amplificus is looking into it, Tom is checking his, but they work fine, so harder to find a problem.
We have this problem 3 times and lucky one of the owners has the tools and skill to check it.
So relax for now, maybe check settings, select beacon on.

Congratulations, you found the shortcut to switch off the locator function temporarily.

It is mentioned on the sheet with the tables on the backside.

Are you sure? That’s the first thing I checked and the shortcut seems to be described differently.

Idk, maybe it’s the same.

Links are also on the cheat sheet with the tables:

Can’t make it clearer then it is (and it was already pretty clear when people scrolled down to post 2
Maybe writing a post asking for it, then wait to read answers feels faster then a scroll down? idk why so many questions got in. Maybe going to this thread and post to get pointed to text feels faster then read the provided manual and type in the shortened link? IDK, typing in a few things in the address bar browser or click on the link in the Banggood listing seems to be much faster then asking a lot of people to read something and even a few type up an answer , for typing the question is so much more typing but well I must be making a thinking error here

Don’t worry guys, it is rare but Miller can be grumpy at times.

Yes I was in a bit of “strict mode” writing the first part of the OP
Thought I brought it not really grumpy though

Yes, normal. Unintentional feature actually. I discovered this early on, and decided to keep it this way, since it's a nice trick to temporarily turn off the switch LED, if you want to.

For the screws, I dunno if they semi stripped or not. They have to bite thru the PCB, so the threads might be filled with dust in that pic, or slightly stripped - could be. Can't check again right now. Either way, those screws do still work very well - tightened them up good. I agree these are Chinese quality - something ain't good. Already partially stripped the head of one, and has some trouble with one reflector screw. I got a bunch of spare screws around though - haven't checked yet for replacements. In the past, the hardware I buy myself from places like BoltDepot.com always seems to be better quality.

For the switch LED's, sorry no pics, but I don't have failures, but do see inconsistencies. On 1 unit, the LED's seem very bright, but I measured 123 uA draw in "sleep" mode, which I think is dead-on with the prototypes. On another unit, I found one of the green LED's brighter than the other, yet everything on the board, wiring/soldering, looked good. I'm thinking it's the SMD LED's themselves, but we won't really know til more trouble-shooting is done.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers David

Didn’t get that as I wanted light to project forward as well as sideways.

As of now, the BG Q8 page shows 1546 preorders which is more then 88% of the interest list in something like ten days! That sounds like a success story! Well done! :+1:

Although i should refrain from mentioning it, i’m a bit frustrated to see new BLF members bragging about their Q8 when long time member that have followed this project from day one are still waiting for their light to be shipped… But what’s a few more weeks when we have waited one year and a half already? Just hopping it won’t be a few more month.

Hearing about issues with the lighted switch and some who plan to cancel their order or send back the light… i’m a bit puzzled. This light is an amazing value considering the specs, build quality and price… and it still is without a lighted switch. :person_facepalming:

PS: i would gladly do without the CE and other markings on the tail cap… Any way to get read of those?

Agreed! This whole project has really been a crazy success, it seems to me, and us the “buyers” have been eating it up. That’s great, and will only help this community’s reputation when working with vendors in the future. Its great!

But I’m not sure I understand the second part of your comment above. What exactly should the ship-lottery winners do with their new lights, just not talk about them? Would you be excited if you already had yours? I know I would be. I don’t have mine yet either, but I’m not blaming the forum members who do. Its not their fault, and they shouldn’t be expected to protect our “feelings” by hiding their own excitement. That’s not a fair thing to ask them to do.
