Random drawing for an SST-90 Flashlight (Please read the fine print first)

I changed a photo in the first post and I changed the date of the drawing (moved it up), since it looks like everyone who is interested has already posted and since the 29th won't work as a date to be able to do the drawing, so I changed the FIRST post and I copied it here too.

I will use your Post# as your lucky number and on February 27th at 11:00PM CST (** I need to change it till 11:00 PM instead of 12:00 PM, since I will be on the road at 12:00 PM and it looks like most everyone who wants to have a chance has already posted, so I'm moving it up to the 27th.**) February 29th, at Midnight CST, I will use random.org to pick the winning number and post it here.

I'd like a chance at this light, too.

Thanks Old.

Thanks for offering such a spectacular build, I'm in.

So . . . . that would be in about 20 minutes, right?

How on earth did I not see this until today? Wouldn't this thread show up in recent posts?

Hi,
Way back when, (thread) I was trying to make something out of an "SST-90 Reflector" and a Maglite. Well after a lot of swearing, tearing down and starting again, and throwing out ruined components and starting it over again!, I finally made a light.

Bear with me and please read the information at the END of this post, BEFORE signing up to have a try at this light.

I made a couple changes on 02-26-12, look below for the font in red and highlighted in yellow.

Ok, what I ended up with is a large "SST-90" reflector from Kaidomain (so sorry)... Dealextreme (which is not offered any more, it's been replaced with something else under the same name), a bunch of photographic adapters and a lens hood, to make the head to hold the reflector. This all sits on top of the regular head of a Maglite 3D LED flashlight. It's been one hell of a challenge and problem to make it all fit and after all is said and done, well, I'm not satisfied...

The reflector I got had a bunch of defects in the SMO finish. Looked like shavings from the milling, or dirt, got dropped in the plating. Of course, KD was not about to help with this or replace it, so I did the bad thing and took #0000 steel wool and polishing compound and removed all the finish inside. Yes, I did! Then I used krylon clear to make an OP finish on it. Well, does it work? Not really... Not as good as a plated finish, but it's either that or give it up. (I should have given it up).

The rest of the build went in this fashion... pure crap! The emitter got ruined (by me? I don't know for sure, but I guess so). I had to buy a new one, along with a new star, from Mouser (Ouch!). (I should have given it up).

Nothing fit well... I got an IS1006 driver for it. That's the one made by DIWdiver at CPF. It's a 9A driver with Hi/Low modes. Well, after 2 or 3 tries it finally works as it should. Did I say that this build was the most problematic I've ever done? Well it is... (I should have given it up).

The build is finished. I don't stop till it works right, or it fits well in the trash container, either way.....
It works right. It's an SST-90 emitter at around 4500k and an IS1006 driver on an aluminum heatsink, driven by Four Sub C NiMH batteries in a PVC sleeve. The switch is a Judco 4 way pushbutton switch Off/On/Off/On and the modes are Low (about 5 amp) and High (about 9 amp), at least by what the driver info states. It is a thrower. It has a small spot and a large dim spill. I have some photos of the light and of the beam, you go from there.

Looks better now, with the Black grip

The light itself looks ugly. A red 3D with a big black head thingy coming off the top. I think it s--ks myself, so I am going to see if anyone wants it. Worse case scenario, you get an SST-90 emitter, a driver and four Sub C Nimhs to do your own mod with.

FINE PRINT - Random drawing

Here's the deal. I might have tried to sell this light, but most of the parts were gifted to me. The 3D Maglite host, the original SST-90 emitter and the Driver were all gifts. SO..... I cannot honestly sell the light for money. That's just not my way.

BUT,....... I have overextended my very limited budget with all these mods lately and, of course, most of them didn't sell or sold cheap, so I just cannot afford to give free shipping out to anyone. I apologize for that, but it's just the way it is and that's the truth.

If anyone wants this light, they need to Pay for Shipping. My zip code is 75703 - You can figure out from there how much shipping is to you! I will ship USPS only. You pick if you want Parcel Post or Priority. You pay the shipping and I send the light to you, If you are the RANDOM WINNER...

I am going to let people post here that they would like to own the light if they win.

So......... to recap. The light is free to the winner, but the winner must pay the shipping to get it. Your post# in this thread will be your number used in the random drawing on February 27th at 11:00PM CST. February 29th, at Midnight CST. If you win, you need to PM me with how you want it shipped USPS Parcel Post or Priority and Paypal me the shipping cost. Then I will ship it to you. I doubt anyone on an international level would want to participate, since the shipping would be high.

The weight of the box is 3 pounds 8 ounces and the size is 14"x11"x5" - for figuring a price.

USA Priority mail (NOT A FLAT RATE BOX) is about $15.00 Uninsured.
USA Parcel Post is about $13.00 Uninsured.

International First Class airmail is about $30.00 to $35.00 USD Uninsured. Y'all can figure it out from there, if you are interested at all, post your interest in this thread. Your post# is your ticket to the random drawing.

If you want insurance, you need to add that to the PayPal payment to me.

I'm done now, I think...
