3AAA Blood Tracker 3-N-1 Headlamp - similar to the eGear Focus Control 100/ River Rock Tec Trek/ Browning Pro Hunter Maxus, but without the flood-to-throw lens.
2AAA Headlamp - similar to the Varta Sports Head Light.
Both are around $13 for now.
Pretty good for the price. I bought and received the 2AAA one today and it's surprisingly good. XRE, TIR, tight ringy purplish beam. But the diffusers actually work pretty well. and so far is running fine on Eneloops.
the 2AAA one really is pretty good. high seems to be 60 lumen-ish, low is around 15-20. both levels are regulated. and i can't detect any PWM on the lower mode. i put some DC Fix on the lens and the beam is much better now. the beam profile w/ DC Fix kinda reminds me of the beam on the Petzl Tikka Plus 2 - still relatively narrow, but smooth and artifact free. High lasts for 2 hours on Eneloops. Doing a low mode runtime test now. It's also pretty comfortable. The forehead pad is foam padded, and as the whole thing weighs in at less than 3 oz, the headband can be worn pretty loose without the lamp flopping around. and the lamp is o-ring sealed to boot. I actually paid $12.99 for this shipped, and despite the bluish tint, I'm very happy with it. I've been looking for a cheap backpacking headlamp with a red light (this has a red flip diffuser) and I think this one will work.
This (2 AAA) is the one with the XR-E right (rather than 5m LEDS)? I wonder if it would reduce the output too much if you also put a amber filter along with the DCFix to reduce the blue tint.
I don’t know if you have any of the Lee Filters but it would be worth a try. If it was just a bluish 5m LED it might just reduce the light too much but with the XR-E it should really help.
I put some mild form of amber on most light (not on headlamps so far however).
