Reading thru some reviews I have a suggestion.

The problem, as ever with me, is presentation. I have the data lying around mostly, or can scrape it back off websites where I put it but presenting it in an organised (or at least usable) manner is where I am at just now.

This will certainly require multiple "dimensions" but that is what HTML is for. But nobody ever accused me of having design skills. That's why I put up the output spreadsheet so that people could comment.

The problem with adding rows is screen width. It is probably safe to assume 1024 pixels width these days though a table that wide almost immediately knocks out all mobile devices. If I need to scroll horizontally, I'm off somewhere else to find the information immediately. I am very conscious of this when I'm not sitting in front of a 2500 horizontal pixel screen.

Add screen width? Please take a look at the pics I posted again. http://budgetlightforum.cz.cc/node/540#comment-7016 No Horizontal scrolling, addtionally if the image was resized slighty the admended info would fit in the same screen space it currently occupies.

What is feasible (I'm designing at the keyboard again - usually a bad idea) is a set of carefully chosen columns, probably no more than 8 with "headline" values and links to the rest of the information.

My main concern was having a date in the body of text (in the same spot in all the reviews so you don't have to hunt for it) of the post itself so you would know if you were reading about a "new 2010-09" model, or a product from 2005.

Did you find the date? Not knowing the flashlight industry inside and out someone reading that review would not know how OLD that unit was, or what year the review was done!.

(The only clue I see are the post dates of comments for the review.)

*Note to self...Victory! Date has been added to template!... (Cost for my time 1.5 hrs at $250 per)... This is going to get expensive on my end if Don stands firm...

Couple more ideas:

Breakdown of ratings near top of page as I purposed before., Image resized slightly so total page size the same size as before.

Build Quality: ★★☆☆☆

Battery Life: ★★★★☆

Light Output: ★★★☆☆

Summary: ★★★☆☆

The ratings perform a DUAL FUNCTION.

Dual function, you can see HOW the product rated in the areas of main interest at a GLANCE, PLUS when clicked on they act like a table of contents for the review taking you to that section.

(EG: Clicking on "Battery Life: ★★★★☆" takes you to battery life part of the review.)

Can that be done? I see it done all over the net...

Another idea for template:

Have a space/ section reserved for link(s) to a newer version (or review, or reviews) of xyz product.
