Æons ago, I upgraded my stock 4654s or whatever they were, to 90W/130W H4 halogens. Freaking blanket of daylight vs little crappy faint spots of light.
Dunno your electrical setup, but a fiend of mine has a… Honda?… that needs a minimum electrical load, else it burns up the regulator and/or alternator. More actual load, less load on the regulator.
Did the XR400 come with halogen H4's? If so, I'd suggest sticking with H4's.
LED manufacturers have struggled with making quality replacement H4-style LED bulbs that perform well in housings (reflector/lens system assys.) that were originally designed for what are essentially point source halogen filaments. Those LED H4 replacements that do perform well are fairly pricey, and there is the LED bulb cooling fan clearance issue to deal with.
The cheap fleaBay H4 LED 'replacements' that promise a gazillion lumens are very poorly focused in a housing designed for a halogen light filament, spewing light everywhere except down the road & blinding oncoming drivers as a result.
There is an extensive thread on LED H4 replacements in the https://www.st-owners.com forum. The H4's used in Handa ST-1300 are slightly proprietary, driving interest there. You'd have to join to see it. The OP of that thread is a member here also, but I don't recall his handle. A sister thread is also here at BLF with participation by the same OP.
Holley makes an awesome sealed beam in conjunction with morimoto. The are expensive but I believe you get what you pay for. DOT approved, 5700k and 3000k options, yellow lens are also available. Check it out. Retrobright Official Site: Sealed Beam LED Headlights
There are some reviews on YouTube and it seems very impressive.
