I’m looking for a dual power (primary and rechargable cells, AA + 18450?) flashlight that can also be used as powerbank.
I should not be that difficult, given there are many rechargable flashlights with built-in chargers, so adding USB-out should be easy, yet it strikes me that I have not found much in this regard.
Any recommendations?
Ideally (in order of preference):
- good quality
- takes rechargable cell (18450 or other common replacable cell) + primary cell (AA or lithium CR123)
- has USB out (powerbank function, I don’t want to carry two similar items), ideally without adaptors. Powerbank function should work regardless of battery type inside (primary or rechargable)
- multi-mode with a very low output for +48H runtime
- titable head
- can stand
- easily replacement of LED + driver circuit (in case built-in modes are not good)
- magnetic (to attach it to the car or something)
USB-C input and output
Some that I’ve found but that do not tick important preferences: Rofis R1, Rofis MR30, Coast Polystell 600R, Wiha
Anything I may have missed? It seems odd that few flashlights have powerbank function, it seems such an obvious function to add these days. The same for accepting multiple types of batteries.
Thank you!
And absolutely none have a combination of the three, especially when you add the option to run primaries. On top of that, charging a device's battery with a different, disposable battery, just seems utterly nonsensical unless you're in a pretty serious emergency.
Here’s a thread that you can dig to search your preferences:
Warning: I guess you will not find what you search for!
Also, many lights with powerbank or just rechargeable are not so easily moddable (unless you have good skills). The LEDs can be replaced easily in most of cases, but the circuit / driver to change the modes, not so much.
Thank you for your reply. Maybe I did not express myself convienently. I mentioned AA, as well as 18650 just as examples. To be honest, I don’t know if size-wise it’d work out to mix them.
However, the point was that I’m looking for a flashlight that can run on primaries and rechargable cells (whatever size, as long as they are standard and user replacable) + powerbank (which ideally works regardless of the cell type in use: primary or rechargable). Do you know any?
Well, when I need a flashlight is usually close to an emergency, same for a powerbank. So it would make sense for a flashlight manufacturer to account for what it is an emergency. It may be that you need to charge your phone after getting lost in some mountain during a trek.
If we remove USB-C requirement (as I said the list as in order of preference, so the lower in the list, the less of a requirement), would you have some clues?
