Recommendation of one click on off torch, no cycling to turn off.

Hi,

I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me regarding the following:

For several years I have had Ledlenser torches however the thing that I find irritating is having to cycle thorough all the different modes.

Does anyone have any recommendations for the following please:

Must have simple one-click on/off, no cycling, no long click.

If it has other modes (don’t care) then these must be set by a different control and the last set must be remembered.

Can be recharged by a USB cable, plugged into the torch.

Ideally the battery is something that can be replaced (not essential).

Is about the same size as an Ledlenser P7, not critical though, if it is bigger/smaller fine.

Costs less than £80 ideally.

The nitecore p12 looked good but you have to remove the battery to charge it by the looks of it, worst case scenario I will have to go for that, as the cycle modes are set separately and that is the main thing that matters to me.

Thanks very much.

Jamie

You’re going to love it here, jamie296!

The vast majority of lights popular in the enthusiast community turn on and off with a single click, with mode changes being one of a long-press, half-press, or separate control. Almost all have mode memory.

The Acebeam E75 is currently on UK Amazon for £80. I strongly suggest the neutral white option, which has excellent color rendering (the cool white version washes out colors). It’s single-press on/off, hold to change modes, and USB-C onboard charging with a standard replaceable 21700 battery. That light would be my first choice for a general-purpose flashlight with onboard charging for your budget (or with an unlimited budget for that matter).

Welcome Jamie296

Convoy lights with the 12-mode driver can set to single mode only, i don’t know if any of these come with charging capabilities though so hopefully someone with more knowledge of their lights might chime in.

As you’ve used the ‘£’ symbol i’m going to assume you’re UK based, in which case Eagtac lights might suffice and are available from Flashaholics.co.uk

I have Eagtac lights and like them, but i don’t have any rechargable ones so have picked a couple at random that might fit your criteria:

Eagtac PX30LC2-R

I’ve no experience with this UI but Eagtac’s online site states the following:

Basic operations:
Turn on the light at MAX output by pressing the tailcap button until it clicks./li>
Turn on the light at LOW output by holding the side switch button while pressing the tailcap button until it clicks.

Advanced operations:
For momentary on function, slightly press the tailcap button
To switch between different brightness levels, press the side button switch w/ flashlight on
To enter hidden auxiliary mode, press and hold the side button switch for 3 seconds w/ flashlight on

which sounds like you just click the tailcap button to turn the light on in full mode, and then off again.

There’s also the Eagtac S25V which just uses the tailcap switch to turn the light on and off, mode settings are detemined by rotating the head. I have Eagtac light with this UI, basically if the head is fully tightened you’re in max mode so if you leave it like this - job done.

If you loosen the head a little bit (up to a quarter turn) you’re in medium mode, loosen a little more and you’re in low. Basically, wherever the head is twisted too determines the brightness level regardless of whether the torch is turned on or off at the time.
There are programmable options so you may need to spend a little time setting it up (such as double click turning on strobe) but once set it’s just on/off with the switch.

There are other lights and UIs, such as the SX30C2, which you may also like but i think it would be useful to understand what kind of beam pattern you want before recommending anything.
The two torches i link to above have different beam patterns but are both quite throwy, you’d struggle to use the S25V close up, in max mode it would be blinding and could damage your eyes.
In fact both have this potential close up in max mode.

Do you use your Ledlensers in flood mode or distance mode? Or are you looking for a zoomable torch?

Evening Jamie, another UK member here.

I admit, I’ve waited an embarrassingly long time to do this

Without knowing your main usage it’s hard to recommend anything, there are so many good lights out there and most have mode memory.

One that I use a lot to see the dog in late at night is a Wurkkos TD02. Mechanical tail switch, has 5 brightness modes but saves the last used. USB C charge port, removable 18650 battery. On Amazon at £19.99 deal. Can’t go far wrong for £20 really.

2 Thanks

Can go for a dual-switch light like the FC13.

Tailswitch for on/off, sideswitch for mode selection.

Loads of good recommendations, thank you so much, what a nice forum.

If I was rewriting my original post probably what I should have said was:
I don’t care how the other modes are set, but once set I want a simple click on/off and it remembers the last one set.

All the recommendations achieve that. One my current torches has like six modes that have to be cycled through just to turn it off!!! I thought I cannot be the only one that finds this annoying.

hahaha, I guess I should have thought about my name when registering on a flashlight forum!
Thanks so much for the recommendation, at that price I will check it out

All the recommended ones are good, you could also look at a Convoy M21F or something like that
