Looking for something that will hold an edge pretty good, blade 2-4” in length. Would prefer it to be all one piece. No scales. But, if they’re nice enough…not a deal breaker.
Slightly shorter than you wanted but I have one and love it. It really is a great knife.
What are you going to use the blade for? As a general fixed blade, I think one of the Moras may be the best value. I would get it over at EDCF or Knifeworks. I have the little Mk5 that scaru suggested and it is, indeed a fine little knife, but I think it is a little small to be useful most of the time. If you have more money to spend, ESEE and tops also make excellent blades and can also be found at those two links.
Going to use it for S (ome) Days Carry. I have plenty of Moras. Wanting a neck knife. Because, well…I don’t have one.
Neck knife? Why yes, I see it there in the title. I really should learn to read slower. Sorry, my bad.
Well, in that case, scaru’s recommendation makes more sense. You may also want to look at the CRKT Folts Minimalist (three blade styles to choose from, I like the Wharncliffe) or the CRKT Triumph (be warned, because of the blade shape, it can be hard for a novice to keep sharp).
The K-Bar TDI is nearly perfect as a neck knife. It is really pushing the definition of “neck knife”, but if the size isn’t too extreme for you and self defense is an overriding concern, the Tops Felony Stop may be just the thing; just saying.
Actually, Tops makes lots of pretty cool small knives.
KaBar Becker Remora (Made in USA) about $20 on ebay
+1 on this. I got mine on tinydeal, if i’m not wrong. Pretty sure is the real one (been checking pictures and every detail looks the same). I’ve just spent 4 weeks biking in Iceland (arrived home yesterday night)and it’s the one I’ve been using, always in my pocket. Good enough for cutting paracord, cables, food prep (useful belly desing specially for slicing, opening packages and even spreading butter). I wanted to travel ultralight, since i was always already carrying food for at least a couple weeks with me), and this knife proved to be perfect. something really cool: i had to use it many times in front of other people, and i never got the usual weird looks you get when using knives in public. Extremely low profile in that field, looking almost like a toy knife can be very positive sometimes.
Not sure though if i’d carry it as a necker, sheath is ok, but it could slip under certain conditions
Condor makes some nice cheap neck knives:
I really like the Bushbuddy and the Fidelis. The Fidelis has a Scandi grind like a Mora.
Also, check out the Becker Necker:
Very good general purpose knife.
How about this:
BMK001 Benchmark Micarta neck knife
No nonsense, clean looking, and nice sheath. I’ve been trying to get one, but the shipping costs almost double the price of the knife. For that kind of money, I´ll probably get a boker instead.
