Well since Lexel disappeared we donāt actually have any kind of remote FET remote tail switch. Maybe you Jared or any of you BLF smart guys could step and make something for sale?
If no one wants to step with production of ātheseā I know that we could contact Led4Power for that job (he makes any kind of drivers, pcbās etc but he prefers wholesale orders) but there will be certain MOQ (larger moq of course) for them.
I donāt know if we would manage to collect 200+ switches in group buy or interest thread?ā¦
Do you mean on the same type of design like this one from this thread (LEXEL original FET remote battery switch design)
or the new type of design where we would have pure hardware type of FET remote switch (if this is possible?).
I guess I could also take 100? But I am still not sure in battery FET remote switch design(well maybe rechargeable battery?) cause once when battery dies my costumers(mostly older people) will be unable to replace it and then I will be in problemā¦
The capacitor isnāt a bad idea though. Who do you know thatāll hold the switch on for 10 minutes? Just a release and hold resets it for another 10 minutes. Itās probably the simplest method. Batteries could be tricky to get in New Zealand at this time. If theyāre preinstalled itās no problem by China Post, but anything else either costs a lot or itās not possible
I also agree⦠I am hunter and for me I need only 2-5 seconds of switch hold while I am on tree standā¦
You certainly donāt want to freak out the game or give away your position with using the light all the time.
When you hear that the game came to your hunting spot (feeder etc.) you use the lightā¦
So I also vote for capacitor (or any other possible pure hardware solution) version of this switch!
I have quoted Mitko cause I know that he had working version of FET remote switch without battery for his personal builds and costumers several years ago but he never revealed to forum what he did!
The good news is both types can be designed and those with the means to make and or distribute them are free to do so.
Quadruple, I can share the schematic soon. Iād say these should be made in 16, 17, and 20mm variants at least. Some sort of spacer will be required for fitment that I havenāt put much thought into yet.
One option is a hollowed out omten switch, which is fine for mods, but maybe not elegant enough for sold products
I built a test circuit using a BLF A6 driver, 18650, and 351D. Using a clamp to hold my switch, it stays on for roughly ten minutes. I didnāt measure exactly because changing the capacitor or pulldown resistor or FET change the result. None of my proof of concept circuit was optimized.
I know that Quadrupel(especially when he drinks fine beer ) knows this engineering stuff very good but I donāt doubt in JaredM either!
Thank you guys! I maybe know how to solder āstuffā but there are very few guys that can create āstuffā. Without good engineers that can create good āstuffā I (We) canāt do anything good
Hey Funtastic! I appreciate the PM and wanted to go public here.
I (like many here) havenāt heard from Lexel for a long while (and I truly hope he is well). Until he may re-appear, IF ANYONE is able to make his FET tail switch board (used with a pressure switch)- Iād be interested in about 20 for use in high-output hunting lights Iāve been working on with a few outfitters for about two years now.
The Texas pig hunters I know and hunt with a few times a year watched me last year running my āpig rigā (ar-15 in a 6.8 SPC caliber) and now they WANT gun lights; while many Midwest hunters (closer to home) are also waiting for coyote/varmint hunting lights (Kansas now allows lights for use coyote hunting at night this year). We mounted one of Simonās new C8+ lights last January on a long-range rifle (260ai) and on a clear night (through decent glass) we could easily scope critters out to 1000 meters across a large lake- we could ONLY shoot to 600 meters! FOUR guys ordered these from me on the spot. But until I get a FET switch, they are having to wait. Frustrating!!!
Anyway, Iāll just throw it out there if someone may be tinkering with something like this. If so, let me know
Iām sorry, I got ahead of myself due to excitement over all this. I went back and read more. As Funtastic already explained⦠run time needed is seconds for using these lights on a gun. So 10 minutes is plenty of time and sounds like a better design than the watch battery design Lexel was making.
If someone runs a batch and gets the cost down, Iād buy a good amount to stock-up along with Funtastic! But i also agree⦠it needs to be a rugged design for the intended use.
Iāll put effort into the design this week. I have lots of CAD experience but havenāt toyed with pcb layout software. Quadruple is already well up to speed ib that department though so Ill work with him.
For the overall integration, I have questions for Funtastic, Zappaman, and L.I. What do you need from these as far as fitment. Are we primarily looking at C8(+) applications? Are they all 1288 switch lights?
Mainly the C8+, and also the new L21B that Simon is waiting for reflectors. Itās a lightweight L21A that Simon made for me to mount. Not sure on the fitting, but sounds like itāll be similar or the same internals as the L21A tail cap.
Iāll run some figures and evaluate how feasible it is for me to supply these to you folks. Iāve not done any sizeable sales before but would like to make this one come to reality. Please donāt take this as a promise, as I have a busy week at work coming up, and honestly am a bit low on cash to make risky investments.
Iāll keep everyone updated.
Funtastic, what are the diameters of the pcbs in the C8+ and L21B? Are they using small omten 1288 switches? Does anyone have a source of the tape / pressure switches?
