repairing a Sofirn IF25a?

Hi, I have a Sofirn IF25a which I love. I modded it with warmer 519a LEDs and I love the result. However recently the flashlight has been acting up: not powering up when it should, UI unresponsive… It’s a bit difficult to describe. disconnect/reconnecting the battery a few times seems to do the trick. I am positive it is not a contact issue. The light has been underwater fully submerged for a few seconds a few times (it’s supposed to be IPx8), and perhaps it’s not actually IPx8. But there is no visible water leakage (no water droplets on lens, USB port intact, nothing wet on the back of the driver).

I could unsolder everything again and re-solder to give it a go. Or I could also just replace the drive while I’m at it? But I have no idea where to find a driver for this light or what specs to get. I’ll want to stick to single channel if I am to change the driver; and I’d prefer a solution that generates less heat (I’ve always found this light to get considerably hotter faster than other lights).

Thanks for your insight!

We’re very glad to have you here, denver!

Thank you! I’m Denver the last dinosaur :t_rex:

Thanks! I had only checked their website, didn’t think about checking AE.
Do you know if other drivers could be compatible? I understand that the driver has a large responsibility in the generated heat?

No idea.

As for heat different drivers can have different efficiency, yes.

This is a fairly straightforward repair. Just desolder the leads on the led board and remove the switch retaining ring. The switch fits through a slot behind it once pulled out.

Best course of action once the led boards are removed is to hold your soldering iron to the contact ring on the driver (the part that touches the body) to heat up and soften the glue. Then push the driver out from the front of the light through one of the holes.

Also take a picture of the led board before you start so you know where the wires go. The markings are in Chinese.

*edited as i started blabbing on about repairing a TS25 before i caught myself.
