Retro looking Flashlight

I’m looking for a retro looking Flashlight that hopefully can be modified to a single low brightness setting. My son loves flashlights and this will be a gift for him, which is the reason for needing a lower lumens setting. I really like the look of the Sofirn if22a but I couldn’t find any way to modify the UI settings. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

This doesn’t meet your criteria of a retro looking flashlight, but my suggestion is to buy a Sofirn C01 or C01S (AAA flashlights).

If your son is a little kid, the C01 is inexpensive, low lumen and still useful for a kid. I gave 3 of them to small kids and they love it.

He currently has a few similar lights and the latest one is a cheap Olight. I was hoping to get something with a push button instead of tighten to turn on.

Depending on how retro you want, antique brass D4V2 and you can limit the output of simple mode.
Or a convoy C8+ maybe, can limit output to 50%, or modify the driver to reduce it further if you only want on/off.

How about a AAA flashlight with a tail switch?

It won't look very retro, but otherwise it might work for you.

Check AliExpress for Manta Ray S1. It is a AA flashlight, tail switch, single mode, several emitter options.

Probably one of the best hosts aroud in a AA flashlight (which is similar to the beloved Convoy T2).

I am not sure if the store there is up at the moment, since it is the Chinese New Year break.

this might help:

Single mode, 50 lumen:

I think i’m just going to buy an old working Eveready Captain off eBay. I can replace the bulb with one of the drop in ones and switch out the D batteries for an 18650 with 3D printed adapter or those 3x AA adapters.

You could also look at Barebones Living, they make a pretty cool 18650 Retro Style LED Flashlight, but it is expensive.

Comes in 4 different colors, here’s the “Vintage White”:
(click photo for link)

It’s 2 mode, but both modes are low brightness, 300lm max so even high is only bright as a stock SK68.
It’s also 4000K, vintage tint!

Here’s the official specs:

Features:

  • Built-In USB-C charging
  • Dual brightness LED bulb with telescoping light focus adjustment
  • Aluminum and steel construction
  • IPX4 water-resistant
  • Barebones specific Li-ion battery 18650 | 2200mAH 3.7V 8.14Wh
  • LED: 3 watt LED bulb
  • Light spectrum: 4000K
  • Lumens: Low: 13 High: 300
  • USB-C charging cord: 5V, 2A USB
  • Run Time: Low: 24 Hrs / High: 2.5 Hrs
  • Materials: Aluminum and steel
  • Dimensions: 2.5 x 2.5 x 6.5

If you want one of these PM me, I may be able to get you one for less $$$.

look for the
antique brass/copper models from Hank https://intl-outdoor.com/led-flashlights.html
antique brass from models Jack https://www.ff-light.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=59
These are programmable flashlights with pads, so you can flash modified anduril UI on it, with special USB programing kit. https://intl-outdoor.com/components/reflashing-kits.html?___SID=U
But well they are heavy, and can be used as blunt weapons.

Yea especially if you stick it in a sock so you can whirl it around!

Can you post a specific link to any of these lights?
I’m not seeing any “retro looking Flashlights” on either of those sites, and no where on either site did I find anything referred to as “antique brass or copper”

Off topic, but I am curious about the reflashing kit, any idea if that would work easily to put anduril on a Martac Pro Tri-Flood 21700? (same as FW21 Pro 3x XHP 50.2) “easily” because I know zero about flashing drivers/software.

Edit: There’s no pads on the Maratac driver, unless they might be on the topside of the driver?

Old-timey Mag AA.

Or for 3bux each (nothing in Florida, but shippable)

I used to get these in bulk. Fits 20mm TIR lenses, too.

old school maglite 2c, pretty retro looking, low lumens, a button.

I like the look of the 2 x C versions of the captain or the Rayovac two C version of the old school lights. I have a bunch of them in my " collection" but doing a real mod on them never seems worth it to me . up close they aren't very well built and the switch and tail seem like real problems . Visualizing using a whole light C-8 drop -in and lots and lots of JB Weld .

I was only planning on adding a Nite-Ize or Dorcy led bulbs. Low lumens is what I am aiming for. I’ll probably even use some AA batteries with spacer since I have about 30 rechargeables I’ve collected over the years from Ikea.

https://www.ff-light.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=59&product_id=90 (simplified Anduril v1 UI, you can't change the max brightness in UI, you would have to flash something on it)
https://www.ff-light.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=87 (no option, but there should be antique brass version of it soon https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/68706)

you have to have pads on the driver for reflashing the UI, so probably not. And it have to be a compatible driver.

I really wanted to get the Sofirn IF22A with the raw aluminum body but it didn’t look like there was a way to flash the Anduril firmware for the muggle mode.

When I first saw that raw version it reminded me of a vintage flashlight!
