My Thorfire VG15S has died on me, it served me well since 2018. Now, what parts could I replace so I could revive it again? The led is 16mm I think, could I replace its LED with something like SST20 or SST40 and retain the driver? I would really like that it will have a long runtime even if not too bright.
Thank you for your suggestion, I will try reading that thread but it is quite long and I may not really understand the terminologies used there. I am looking at the following 3 leds, which among them maybe the best option?
There is no such thing as the best LED. It all depends on personal preferences.
LH351D is the floodiest, SST20 is the throwiest. SFT40 is more throwy than SST40.
SST20 (2700K and 4000K) have the highest CRI (~95). LH351D is high CRI (~90). The rest is lower than 70.
High CRI leds have lower lux than low CRI leds.
SFT40 6500K will be the brightest, then SST40, the least bright is SST20 2700K.
If you like 5000K and high CRI, then LH351D is the only option. If you want the brightest 5000K, then SST-40 is an answer. If you seek for throwy beam, go for SST-20.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate the info you are sharing! I actually like the default tint of the VG15S, I think my BLF A6 has a cooler white compared to it. I’d go for the LH351D then, I’ve got a C8 if I need a throw. Will the default driver work if I’ll only change the led? Sorry, I am really new to this.
