Does anyone know if the soic is accessible w/o removing the driver? I was thinking of getting some custom modes on this light and taking it on an upcoming camping trip.
Also, I am deciding between the 2800ma and 2100ma drivers. Do you guys know if there is much of any perceptible difference in brightness between the 2?
would having the 2 extra 7135s effect custom modes if flashing? Would it have a higher lowest setting?
I don't think it's a clone either. I think they're using selling flashlights that are based off of Convoy hosts. I think it's a great thing and I'd like to see a lot more of it.
Here's the L2 by Lustefire. It's a really good price too. $33.70. The first tube is different, but still appears to have the quality we expect from Convoy. I'm having a hard time not purchasing it right now.
No, the MCU is on the inside and the driver is soldered into the pill.
I recently switched mine to a QLite driver and it wasn’t easy to get out or back in without getting a lot of heat on the pill.
I highly doubt those are the same. The head on the DX light looks way smaller. According to the DX Specs, that head is only 48mm. The Convoy L2 is 68mm. Big difference!
I have placed an order for the M2 with Simon but after reviewing JM’s review on the M1. I got me thinking now, I should have ordered the M1 instead or stick to the M2.
Both are great lights but the M1 offers better throwing capability over the M2 due to the slightly larger reflector and head as well as better thermal management thanks to the larger head and more fins for surface area. The M2 offers better looks if you are into the stainless bezel and comes with both smooth and crenelated bezels.
It´s my first post and as my first words: Thanks for the review! I ordered my Convoy based on this thread and had it 2 days ago, and i am very pleasantly surprised of the quality of this light.
If i´ve to buy good light locally, i think even 50$ cant´t give me same quality that this ~20$ thingy!
Took some time to get used to the interface, but once i got into it that is actually quite logic. And i like that those blinkermodes can be ignored.
I´ve have/had several Sipiks, nice basic lights but i needed more. Also i have plenty of 18650s lying around since i switched to e-cigs, so all the more natural choise. And if something goes wrong, i always have my trusted and quite beated Fenix e-01 with me to deliver me from the darkness… 0:)
So there is no aluminum galling on aluminum. The threads are anodized and the ends are brass. It takes me a while to get aluminum threads lapped together so they slide smoothly, and if I didn’t keep cleaning I have the feeling that the process would not converge.
Great review, I’m waiting for M2 2.8A right now and wondering how bad the thermal management compared to M1? What should I do to improve? I do have a tube of thermal grease for CPU. Should I spread it around the pill for better heat transfer? I’ve decided for M1 but gone with the M2 because I like the look of the SS non crenelated bezel and the smaller head is more pocketable in my opinion. Also with C8 will be here anytime soon I don’t need another thrower.
Really liking this light. I’m now trying to decide between this M1 or purchasing a Thrunite TN12 2014($45) which happens to be slightly smaller. It would be interesting to see how the two compare.
However there are two negatives I see with the M1 atm.
First the interface itself. I don’t care for the blink on low. Not sure if disabling one of the modes physically by soldering driver stars gets rid of this blink? Plus I’m not sure how switching between the brightness levels works since I haven’t haven’t been able to find a good video showing it. Also wish there was a forward clicky option(for momentary on).
Then the lack of CR123 battery support since I planed on using a mix of both rechargeable and primaries. In fact I was going to start with primaries first.
Otherwise I really like the DIY/upgrade/replaceable part aspect of this light. Not quite sure what i should do
