PACKAGE and ACCESSORIES:
Nitecore HA23 UHE arrives in a brown cardboard box. The main features of the new headlamp are specified on it.
In the small box we find: Nitecore HA23 UHE with headband, 3 x AAA Alkaline Batteries, Diffusion Bag, Clip and manual (multilingual).
The sales package contains two useful accessories: The Multipurpose Clip in plastic to be inserted after removing the elastic band, and the bag for storing objects/diffusers.
The 4-way Clip can be positioned in multiple directions, attached to the shoulder strap of a backpack or to a hat.
The Bag included in the sales package transforms the headlamp into a camping lantern or an ambient light.
The removable, lightweight and easily adjustable elastic headband ensures good breathability and comfort. The band is reflective with a silicone strip inside that improves grip and deflects sweat to the sides of the head away from the eyes.
The Nitecore headlamp can be tilted 90° with one hand through 5 clicks. The mechanism works well even when stressed for example by running.
Nitecore HA23 UHE is made of special PC plastic (polycarbonate) with high mechanical resistance to impact and low temperatures and is equipped with IP68 protection rating. The weight, including the elastic band, is 90 grams (with three AAA Alkaline batteries) and 56 grams with the Battery Pack. Once adjusted on the head, the Nitecore headlamp is light and does not tire.
The optical assembly of the Nitecore HA23 UHE, which uses a TrueVision+ optical matrix lens system (minimal light loss and improved reflectivity) and dual-core UHE MCT LEDs (multiple color temperatures), is equipped with primary lights with 3 color temperatures (3,000K warm light, 4,500K neutral white light and 6,500K cool white light) as well as auxiliary red lights.
This solution is an added value for this product since it covers almost all preferences in terms of beam color.
HA23 UHE ha una potenza massima di 600 lumen con una gitata del fascio massima di 132 metri.
Under the optical group there are 4 power indicator LEDs, which can be called up via the MODE button, which indicate the remaining charge of the battery or batteries.
On the upper part there are two plastic switches; on the left the “MODE” button and on the right the ON/OFF button, for the complete management of the user interface. To activate the switches you need to use quite a bit of force as they are not very raised, almost flush with the body. Under the two buttons we find the writing that reminds us how to insert or remove the electronic lock.
Nitecore HA23 UHE can be powered by 1500mAh rechargeable lithium battery (HLB1500) (optional), 3 x AAA alkaline batteries (included) or AAA rechargeable Ni-MH batteries.
Along the edge of the battery compartment we find two gaskets for protection from water and dust.
Nitecore HA23 UHE is certified IP68 (2 meters submersible).

USER INTERFACE (UI):
Nitecore HA23 UHE has 2 buttons to manage the front light with 4 levels of primary white light + 3 special modes (SOS, Beacon and Red Slow Flashing) and 2 levels of auxiliary red light. All these functions lead to a learning of the user interface
not immediate even if a little practice is enough to remember everything. I sometimes found the two switches a little hard to operate that I would have preferred rubber and raised. Good spacing of the levels with the Ultralow light output that I would have preferred from 1 lumens. Nitecore HA23 UHE does not have a memory function.

BEAM and RUNTIME
Nitecore HA23 UHE is an innovative headlamp in the management of the light beam thanks to the recent MCT (Multi Color Temperatures) system it has. Now it is possible, in the three main levels, to choose the preferred color temperature between neutral, warm and cold light.
The light emitted has a good uniformity and the beam with a wide illumination range of 100° offers a wide vision both from far away and near.
HA23 UHE also features 2 auxiliary red light LEDs that effectively preserve night vision without attracting mosquitoes and insects and when flashing are useful for emergency warning or response.
With the OPPLE Light Master Pro, a fairly precise device even if not calibrated, I measured the value of the CCT color temperature, of the Ra color rendering. The Flicker is in the green band not at risk.
These are the values found for the Nitecore HA23 UHE with primary white light:
Cool White Light: Color temperature (K): 6216 - Color rendering index (Ra or CRI): 71.9 - Duv = -0.0031
Neutral White Light: Color temperature (K): 4468 - Color rendering index (Ra or CRI): 70.4 - Duv = -0.0034
Warm Light: Color temperature (K): 3312 - Color rendering index (Ra or CRI): 69 - Duv =0.0060
The table below shows some peak candela (cd) values taken with my Luxmeter in reference to the 4 levels High, Medium, Low and Ultralow for the three color temperatures, Warm, Neutral and Cool.
Runtime tests were done indoors using 3 Duracell AAA Alkaline batteries in the High (600lm) and Medium (280lm) light levels. The values were taken with the LX1330B Luxmeter with Lux/1m (cd) measurement.
I would like to point out that the values expressed in the graphs must be taken, above all, as a reference because they were made with means and environmental conditions different from those used in the laboratory. The measurement made with the Luxmeter reports the values in Candela (cd) and not the expressed brightness.
The runtime times declared by Nitecore seem to be effective. Soon, as soon as it is sent to me, I will do another test with the 1500mAh battery pack (HLB1500) which I will then add to the review.
