The zoom flashlight of the Incredible Hulk…
Err, were you really just blasting those people in the high rise? And you do that a lot? I wont be watching more.
The ones 2000m away?
If light wasnt hitting the buidling you wouldnt be using it as something to use to show the light hitting the build then would you?
If you can see the light on the building after a 4000m round trip then its a lot of light…
I really doubt that it would bother anyone. Besides he never leaves the beam on one place for long.
Even if someone was standing in a widow looking for it…they might see a little blip of light from 4 KM away…
If you can see the light on the building THROUGH the coherent beam…I promise you it’s brighter than moonlight, lol. On the most intense one, if I had to guess, it was probably at least 1k lux on the building.
Not to mention, logic and science dictate that if the rated throw exceeds the actual distance thrown, such as rated to 2800m, that means at 2800m it becomes moonlux. But the distance thrown is 800m less than that, 1970m, the intensity of of which would DEFINITELY be very uncomfortable to stare into. You even had one light rated at over 3km, so that extra 1km of lux had to go somewhere, i.e. on the building.
As cool as the video was, you reqlly don’t seem to have any awareness of just how bright 2.5mcd is. Get a buddy or a friend to go to where you were at, then go to the building in question and record the “blip” of light. I guarantee it’ll look like the equivalent of dead on high beams from about 150m away. Maybe even more intense.
You could also just stare at the brightest stage of the moon, and imagine it being 3-4 times as intense as it is
I wish I was aware so then I’d stop doing the 1m LEP eye test.
I have found a huge factory 2000m away from a bridge, it’s not as lit up as the flats either so you’ll see the impact of the beam more.
There used to be Ferrybridge powerstation and a massive white warehouse at Stanley I used to film but the powerstation was pulled down and a new housing estate now blocks the sight-line to the factory.
I’m always on google maps scouting locations, trying to avoid lighting civvies and roads though. Epecially at ranges under 1970m.
Tree lines are a safe bet but even at 800m hotspots aren’t refecting light back. It’d be a dull but PC video.
I’m not sure it’s Political Correctness, it’s about not bothering other people with your actions.
I do appreciate its hard in built up areas of the UK to find suitable locations for long distance beamshots and you mention you’re always scouting new places out, so I don’t actually believe you’re as selfish as is being made out here, keep up the good work finding uninhabited indy sites to use
Trees scatter and absorb a significant amount of light in general, let alone in the higher range of neutral to cool white, so I get it…would it be difficult to get to the treeline and set up a weather resistant white board with small sections of red reflectors or reflector tape on it? Or…hear me out…someone (was it you?) Used to use water towers to test beamshots. It’s what I did when I first got my then record holding deft-x. Drove almost an hour out of way to find a lowly populated area with a water tower about a mile away from a civilian accessible area. I was using a combination of Gearth and gmaps to double check for airports, light defilade, etc.
I did find a water tower but I got threatened by the farmer where I was filming from. I’ve lost quite a few perfect locations because of mistrusting farmers.
I’ve asked a farmer if I can film his huge storage shed in exchange for a nice light, but he’s not got back to me yet.
I’ve consulted the local Mansion if I could on their Estate and also near by sculpture park but they both refuse night filming.
It’s tricky. Filming in rural locations is far more hazardous and controversial than urban ones I’ve found.
Interesting…have you shown them your channel? Surely farmers, of all people, would be able to make use of a bright portable light…
Yes, I don’t think they want the confusion of whether it’s me or a lamper/theif. Yorkshire Sculpture park didn’t want me to use the park for advertising products.
What if you agreed to give them prior notification before you were going to film?
