review: nitecore TM06

Hi my friends!

I got a big brown box (covered with white foam, stuffed in a gray plastic bag) from banggood.

worlds “smallest” 3800 Lumen flashlight??

but when i opened it i was like “WOW - so tiny?!”

the (chinese only) manual, Orings, a lanyard and a nice holster are also in the box

the TM06 IS a tiny monster!

besides a 250ml can of a famous austrian drink

fits my hand nicely

There is a recess to make the tailswitsc easyer to reach

all 4 sides have prinitngs on it

the anodization is perfect - maybe a bit on the slippery side…
but the knurling is well made and not too agressive

unscrewing the tailcap shows us well lubedtriangle threads with two Orings

inside the tailcap

looking toward the driver

all 4 battery slots have a sticker to indicate the correct direction

the driver

can it be programmed without disassembling??

the side switch (more in the text section)

then i looked at the front end - BAM! no AR coating

and scratches!!

BUT after i removed the protective foil the page turned into violet!

there IS glas - believe me!

nice centered Cree XM-L2

the steel bezel has a little gap - looks kinda nice

some data from the manufacturer
table(table#posts).

first impressions:

WOW - just WOW!
nice build quality! - feels good, perfect size
very bright! and easy to operate.

the UI:
when you tighten the tailcap (mechanical lockout) the blue LED under the sideswitch blinks to inidicate the voltage of the cells
-> blink-blink-blink-blink-pause-blink-blink = 4,2V
then the light is in standby and the blue led blinks slowly (to find the light in the dark?)
a click on the tailswitch brings it to life - it starts alway with the last used brightness
or:
half press the sideswitch while turning it on starts in lowest mode
full press the sideswitch while turning it on starts in TURBO mode

when its on a full press increases the brightnes mode, half press decreases step by step
(lower-low-mid-high-turbo)
full press for more than one second activates disco modes (aka fast strobe)
press and hold switches to SOS and another press and hold brings the beacon up (short, very bright slow flashes)
single click goes back to last used brightness level

you can find the user manual here: http://www.nitecore.com/UploadFile/Files/download/1-1_TM06_UM_EN.pdf

I like:

  • this is a really great little flashlight!
  • the output is enormous for its size - also is the heat it produces…
  • tailstand is possible
  • mechanical lockout is possible
  • the UI is great
  • the Voltage is shown when fastening the tailcap
  • low voltage warning
  • the two step sideswitch

I don´t like:

  • the battery tube / Spring length is somehow “crazy” - cells smaller than 66mm won´t make contact and cells longer than 69mm block the rear PCB from contacting the battery tube. (pic below)
  • the batteries rattle
  • only 18650 possible
  • uneven beam - if you rotate the light it is disturbing me a bit (look at the video)
  • two hands needed to operate

i had to use magnets to stack my 65mm pulls so they work in this light

the “lotus effect”

if you like to buy one don´t forget to ask me for the “special price”

what a great Christmas present that would be!

thanks for this review of this awesome light! is the only way to turn on/off light by tail cap only?
you can’t use the side switch? that might be the deal breaker for me right there.

you are right…

maybe I should add that to the points I don’t like…

What is the list and special price?

I love special price . Is it cheaper than FT?

Comparison to a Srk?

unfortunately i don´t have one… :shy:

Good review and a nice light. I was thinking of buying one but then the TN36 came out and with the TN36 being way brighter the thought of getting a TM06 too became a bit redundant. Any way to test the output and see if it lives up to it's claims? Is there any PWM in any of the modes like on the Fenix LD60 (yes, I know it's not PWM,technically, but flicker is flicker and it's PWM in my book)?

What the hell are they thinking concerning the short springs and the inability to use standard 18650 cells without stacking magnets onto them? That is unsafe as hell as a drop or hard knock could dislodge the magnets and create a short that could kill the driver at best or cause the cells to vent at worse. Shame on you, Nitecore!

I imagine it is close to true 3800 since the TM26 is. Besides the nice tactical switch, I much prefer the TM26 design. This is closer to the SRK’s super floody designs. The TM26 adds some really nice throw and useful screen for not much more money.

It’s nice the TM06 is slightly smaller too.

about the batteries:
i do not have button top unprotected (they will fit i am quite sure…)
i tried 2 pais of “normal” 68mm protecteds - they workes also

my panasonics are known to be very long with their 70mm.

about flicker:
i made some 1second shots in different modes - NO flicker at all!

Selfbuilt’s review put this at a disappointing 3100lm max.

hmmm… :frowning:

i “lock-out-ed” the light when i put it on the shelf 3 weeks ago
checked with shaking and hearing the batteries clicking around

today i found 2 on 4.1 Volts and the other two at 0.9 and 0.3 Volt ! :open_mouth:

i learned once again: if you use a light which has parasitic drain take the batteries out!
(and the TM06 has some drain even if you switch OFF the tailswitch!!!)
