Review request for HKJ [USB Power Devices]

Anyone has a list or have tested which USB Tester has an Apple Lightning USB port and does that MFi testing?

Wishlist — flashlights with ports. I mistrust them.

Yes, the precursor to the one posted by angerdan :

You can also test MFi status with the KT-001 and the ZY1276 but from the USB-A end.

The following is not necessarily a review request for Henrik, albeit this is place for at least some comments concerning the following DIY powerbank kit which some Ucrainian folks have video reviewed:

Dual maximum charge voltage.

Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support.

May someone translate whatever relevant stuff said in the video?

It seems to be good and of course ;-) cheap: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Type-C-Dual-USB-QC3-0-7x-18650-Battery-DIY-Power-Bank-Box-Charger-For-Cell/32912949447.html

Does the above powerbank support both QC3.0 input and output? And also has other protocols supported (eg. Apple 2.4A, Samsung 9v)

Check the video: QC3.0 AFC FCP SFCP SCP MTK (related information at Chargerlab).

Apple 2.4A/DCP is standard in pretty much everything with enough amperage rating, and can be easily coded by hand via D-/D+ USB lines.

These USB Step-up converters are very nice:

Hi, HKJ,

It would be interesting to see reviews for the following Anker USB wall chargers. These are some of the top-selling products on Amazon.com. (The “Elite” model below sells about 17,000 units per month just on Amazon.com.)

PowerPort Mini charger
(12W, 2-port, 2.4A total)
Amazon-Link-1
Amazon-Link-2
Anker-Link-1
Anker-Link-2
*PowerPort+ 1
with Quick Charge 3.0*
(18W, 1-port)
Amazon-Link
Anker-Link
PowerPort II 2
(24W, 2-port, 2.4A per port)
Update to the “Elite” charger.
Amazon-Link
Anker-Link
PowerPort “Elite” 2
(24W, 2-port, 2.4A per port)
Older model, but top seller.
Amazon-Link
Anker-Link

In particular, it would be great to know if the mini charger is as safe as the larger chargers, and if so, why do the larger chargers have to be so big.

It would be useful to know if the Quick Charge 3.0 charger is a bad choice for non-Quick Charge devices, or whether the Quick Charge feature improves safety function or has some other benefit.

My need is a wall charger for flashlights that have built-in USB charging for Li-ion batteries, and safety is the most important feature for me.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses!

1. The mini charger can only output a total of 12W over the 2 USB ports! The bigger charges have to output 18-24W, so the components are bigger to accommodate more power output

2. Quick Charge 3.0 is only a factor when charging QC 3.0 capable devices. Otherwise, it works just like a regular USB charging port. Also, most quality USB chargers are safe from brands like Anker, Blitzwolf, iClever, etc. So shouldn’t be a problem.

3. If you do not have a QC 3.0 compatible phone, I would just get either the Power Port 2 Elite, since it seems to have the same specs and internal design as the newer edition, and is slightly cheaper.

I have ordered one of the usb boost converters.

Links to Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk will seldom work for mains powered equipment, it has to be Amazon.de

The linked picture with powerbank specs contains errors (Volts mixed with Amperes etc.).
Fewer errors migth be in the table above the picture.

Wow! Am I seeing a ≈€43.09/$48.26 price tag for such DIY power bank shell? That's insane!

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Notebook-Mobile-Power-High-Power-Replaceable-Battery-QC3-0-8-Section-18650-Battery/32946298183.html I see it here with a better default shipping option.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-Arrival-18650-VFC-Battery-Box-QC3-0-QD-Laptop-Power-Bank-QiDian-6-Sections-Removable/32950401144.html Similarly featured unit with 6 slots. Expensive too.

Please bear in mind that with such high power output the additional contact resistance of the battery holder will incur heavy losses; even at low power it will noticeably affect efficiency. I advice to solder or spot weld the cells to the battery management/boost regulator circuit.

Cheers ^:)

Just found somewhere else selling that QD188-BFC for a little less money angerdan:

$36.83 final price with BLF coupon. ;-)

Wow! More bucks to spend due to manufacturer's fault. If Oppo/OnePlus were to really care for their customers their device ROMs would have some switch to select charge protocol (DASH or Quick Charge, I read somewhere they can't be used at the same time). Guess that's what happens to people spending big bucks on toys to boast about. ;-)

Cheers ^:)
