I have always liked the form factor of everyday carry flashlights based on the AA battery, or its higher-performance lithium-ion rechargeable cousin, the 14500. It’s a significant technical challenge for manufacturers to develop flashlights that work well on both batteries because they staddle the voltage required by white LEDs. Skilhunt has been a leader in the field since the introduction of the M150.

Would have been a perfect light if they used a TIR rather than a shallow reflector, which is the worst possible type of secondary optic when it comes to angular tint shift. Getting +0.004 duv from a 519A is insane, it’s on par with the worst-binned SST20’s from 2018, and without much extra efficiency due to the low drive power. Due to angular tint shift, the spill will have very negative duv, which makes the +0.004 hotspot stand out even more.

I’m hoping the new F35R LED will help with tint. It appears to have negative Duv and minimal tint shift in the M200.
