Review: Small Sun ZY-T08 2 x 18650 (Parallel)

Yes Viffer750 I have seen the thread, thanks for pointing it out.

As for the driver i am not concerned, I will replace it with a single mode (maybe 2 mode) 7135 based driver.
I will also try to install a forward clicky.

I plan to replace the T13 on my bicycle with this as a signaling/off road light.

The T08 would do a good job at that but seems hard to mount.

We have seen 3a out of my poorly performing zy-t08………

Now I need to get the right variable resistor to do the job right, anyone know of a 0 - 1 ohm sub miniature pot is made and if so, any links?.

I ordered these a while ago:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/370570061343?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&\_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

They should fit since I had there before a physically larger resistor (but it had wrong Ohm value).
Naturally these are not as good as pot ´s since they cannot be adjusted…

They would do it, just wanted to be able to dial the current in.

The pots I have go down to .5ohm, I just need to get much closer, the pot I got was rated 50r, perhaps I need to get a “k” rated pot? I don’t know, I’m very rusty on my electronics…

this is what I ordered, I dont know how will work

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-x-20-OHM-TRIMPOT-TRIMMER-POTENTIOMETER-3296W-3296-/250853024381?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6801627d

20ohm 25 turns, so I think it can be set quite accurately

Oh, the way we got to see 3a was to use crap ultrafire Grey’s, on decent cells, back down to 2.34a, regardless of cells - Panasonic’s mainly, cgr18650’s etc, the crap fires gave a .6a boost that was noticable in use. The pot I’ve fitted for now gave .4 of an amp, I was just hoping to dial it in a bit more. Need more adjustment…. J)

That should certainly be better than the one I got, it went from .5 ohm to 46.5 ohm in a 270 degree sweep.

Now I have a better idea what to look at, I’ll check maplin first, might be able to come back to this tomorrow, I’m just trying to convince my six month old that half ten at night is sleepy time, not crawl all over daddy play time……

Got mine this morning!

Folks, if you haven’t jumped on the T08 bandwagon, get up and get! This is one awesome light! It is well driven - definitely brighter than my HD2010 running a 26650, although my 2010 may be a touch underdriven - and super nice and ergonomic in the hand. Doesn’t feel excessively weighty or bulky and is super nice with just about any grip you want to take. Feels nicer to carry than the HD2010 for sure. Right now, it is running two Tenergys. Beam is a nice, tight circle with hardly any other colors or rings visible to the eye and it is bright white in the center!

I had to take it apart and remove some plastic machining bits from around the reflector that had fallen on the emitter dome, but it didn’t take long. Manafont has always come through for me. ordered on the 1st. Arrived on the 16th. Not too bad. The reflector is plastic, but ask me if that takes away any excitement for testing tonight. It totally doesn’t!

Thanks for that link, Viffer! I just ordered 4 packs of those (8 total) shipped for under $4. What a bargain!! Can’t wait to use one in my T13 and another in the T08 DX is sending me to review.

Johnny, what I found is it needs to go below .46ohm (lowest limit on the ones I got) to have a significant effect, I got more current by using crap cells. If they do go down to .1 or so ohm, I’ll be ordering a few myself. 8)

Guys is it confirmed that the T08 from DX comes with a aluminum reflector?

I think johnnymac will be able to confirm it soon, but there really is no issue with the plastic reflector, the biggest issue I have is the crappy screws used to hold the tailcap on. These need replacement.

I’ve also found crappy ultrafire cells give a significant rise in current readings like 3a compared to 2.4a on Panasonics, efest cells etc. Guess their good for something…

Yeah, I got word from DX that a T08 is on it's way to me. Might take a few weeks until I have it but I'll let you know what the reflector is made of. Honestly, I don't see what the big deal about the reflector is. Plastic ones work just as well and are easier to manufacture as well as easier to produce in optimal designs. The reflector does very little in the way of sinking heat from the light so material doesn't matter.

Wait till you see the pill, its more like a horse suppository…. It’s _kin massive! It does want a couple of dimples drilling in to aid fitment, but its a good couple of inches long with threads along most of its length.

Thanks for the replies guys!
Guess ill either pull the trigger on one from manafont.

crap i need new batteries if i paln to order one :stuck_out_tongue:
My Keeppower 3400’s are on the way from Bob

Received mine today from DX ordered on 29 Oct. It has the metal reflector. The only things I noticed was that the driver was a little loose about a 1/8 turn to tighten and I wiped the battery contact plate down with alcohol and got some black residue off it. My keeppower button top protected 3400 fit just fine. (Thanks Kumabear) And of course the spongy switch others have mentioned. Can`t wait for dark.

Mario, as I noted in post# 102, after tightening up the driver board, the Keeppower 3400's fit and work fine, so you should be ok.

Oh sorry my bad I missed that post!
Thanks allthumbs and betweenrides for the heads up.

Allthumbs please share your experience when you power that baby up at night (if you have the time)

Thanks guys

Anyone soldered a driver yet?
If you have used a pot, what kind of resistance have you used?
