SPERAS, a high-tech company that produces premium portable lighting equipment, has recently released a compact RGB headlamp that provides good illumination and battery life at a competitive price.
SPERAS B8, successor to the SPERAS B7 reviewed by me last year, is a lightweight headlamp that brings some interesting innovations such as RGB LEDs and the new touch switch (Touch key).
Speras B8 has 6 light sources with a depth LED (CREE XP-G3 S6), 2 floody LEDs and RGB LEDs. The maximum brightness is 700 lumens. It is equipped with 2 switches on the top and a touch key for managing the UI. SPERAS B8 is IP66 certified (protected against strong jets of water and dustproof) and is recommended for activities such as night running, hiking, camping, night fishing, night hunting, emergency repairs, etc.

The elastic band that we find already inserted in the front is of good quality and allows for easy portability and adjustment. If necessary, it is possible to remove it from the B8.

SPERAS B8, unlike the previous SPERAS B7, has a built-in battery of 1800mAh. This battery is rechargeable via the USB-C port located on the left side of the front. The charging port is protected by a rubber cover of a reasonable thickness.
To fully recharge the battery I took about two hours and thirty minutes in my tests.

When charging the headlamp (and when it is turned on) the LED indicators on the bottom will automatically indicate the charge level.

For complete management of the user interface (UI) SPERAS B8 has two buttons on the top and a touch key on the right side. The two upper switches, of different sizes, must be pressed firmly to activate them, while the touch button is very sensitive and just a touch is enough to activate it.

Operation and User Interface:

Immagine

The user interface of the SPERAS B8 front is managed by 2 switches (KEY1 and KEY2), one larger (KEY1) and one round (KEY2), located on the upper part and by a Touch-key located laterally on the right. It takes a bit of practice to remember the UI given the numerous functions available.

Key (KEY1)
With the light off, press the KEY1 button to turn on the B8 with the light in memory.
1. By pressing and holding the KEY1 button again, we will have continuous brightness adjustment (1-700LM) depending on the type of light used at that moment (Spotlight, Floodlight, RGB). Pressing the KEY1 button again will deactivate the light.
2. With a double click we will activate the Strobe in memory, then pressing the KEY2 button will cycle the RGB LEDs Strobe β†’ Floodlight Strobe β†’ Spotlight Strobe. In Spotlight Strobe and in Floodlight Strobe, touching the Touch-key will constantly activate the Spotlight Strobe + Floodlight Strobe.

Touch Key
Every time we touch the Touch Key with our fingers we obtain the maximum brightness of the type of light used at that moment. Touching the touch key again will return to the previous mode.

Button (KEY2)
1. With the light off, pressing and holding the KEY2 button will activate the RGB light in memory. Holding down the KEY2 button again will cycle the RGB lights, Blue β†’ Green β†’ Red.
In this situation, pressing the KEY1 button will dim the brightness. Press the KEY1 button again to turn off the B8.
2. With the light on, with a click of the KEY2 button, we will cycle between RGB β†’ Spotlight + Floodlight β†’ Floodlight.

KEY1 Button + KEY2 Button
Press both buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to lock the torch electronically. The locked state is indicated by a flashing Blue light.
To unlock the B8, press both buttons again for 3 seconds. The unlocked state is indicated by the flashing of the depth LED (Spotlight).

Beam is Runtime

Immagine

The beam of the SPERAS B8 has a not too cold tone that tends to yellow/green laterally (corona) with a discrete throw especially in the highest combined level of 700 lumens. The light completely covers the walk. The RGB LEDs are discrete and functional.

While walking in the woods at dusk I particularly appreciated the combined beam (700 lumens) which offers a good lateral view up to a distance of 50 meters. The vision with the spotlight beam alone is also good even if there is a bit of lateral lighting missing (you can see it in the video).

With the OPPLE Light Master Pro, a fairly precise device even if not calibrated, I made some measurements taking the value of the color temperature CCT and the color rendering Ra. The Flicker is in the green band not at risk. From the values I found the color temperature does not appear too cold being under 6000K while the color rendering, over 70 Ra, is on normal values.

The runtime test was performed in High combined mode (700 lm) and in Spotlight mode (about 330 lm), in a closed environment and without ventilation with the internal 1800 mAh battery, fully charged.
I would like to point out that the values expressed in the graphs (in candela) must be evaluated above all as a reference because they were made with means and conditions different from those used in the laboratory.

In combined mode (700 lumens) there is a sudden drop in brightness after one minute from switching on. After about two minutes the brightness stabilizes and begins a slow and constant decrease for over 4 hours before switching off.

Immagine

The other test was done by putting the B8 in Spotlight mode with only the depth light. The maximum brightness in this mode should be 330 lumens obtained by dimming with the main button KEY1. My test ended after more than 8 hours from the start with the SPERAS B8 still on. Also in this test after a minute from the start there is a clear drop in brightness that stabilizes after about two and a half minutes. After this period the discharge curve drops slowly and steadily.

CONCLUSIONS

SPERAS B8 is a complete head torch with white and RGB light sources. When held in your hand, you immediately appreciate the good construction and compact size for general indoor or outdoor use. Of note is the 1800mAh battery, even if internal and not replaceable, and the innovative Touch Key. The upper buttons work well but are slightly hard to operate and must be pressed decisively also because they are rigid and not very prominent.
Tested in the evening, it convinced me with a beam that in the combined mode (spotlight + floodlight) is truly appreciable. Recommended.
