Based on the increase in output with a CR123A cell and the fairly weak thermal path, I think it’s likely that a 3.7 V cell would fry this thing. I personally prefer AA cells over 14500 in most cases anyways, so I don’t see a huge advantage here.
And no Wrathbringer, the body is entirely aluminum. Streamlight does make a PolyTac version with a polymer body.
