Review: TrustFire A8 from Manafont.

They are a nice well built light

I’ve been looking long and hard for a 26650 light and this might be the one to get. Does it have a true constant current driver, or just a micro-controller for modes? It looks like it’s direct drive from the photo, but it’s a little hard to tell.

Just spotted this available without battery and charger from HKE.

Good find, Garry - thanks!

Just pulled the trigger on this flashlight. Looking forward to it, he he. Does anyone have experience with using optics? Any recommendations for the A8? I’m hoping to at some point turn this thing into a bright flooder with a wide hotspot…

Just received my A8, pretty happy with it. Compared to my other 26650 light the JM07 pro it’s visibly not as bright, the spill from the JM07 is also wider, although the immediate corona around the A8 hotspot is a little brighter making it a decent flooder, almost like an OP hotspot.

I expected it wouldn’t be too bright as the store I purchased this from advertised the light as 600 lumens, and from this youtube video comparison with the Keygos M10 which is consistent with what I’m seeing:

Quality seems pretty good, and it made a good combination with the JM07 while nightriding, putting out a nice floody beam, not as good as my HD2011 for a floody beam and a little spotty, however the extra runtime of the 26650 is practical and it looks better side by side with the JM07. Just wish it had an OP reflector.

Still, quite chuffed and it looks like this will be my new favourite night riding combination, and it is a nice looking light.

Remove the bezel stainless ring you will see the difference

Thanks Pok I’ll give that a try, although it’s seems pretty hard to remove. How did you get yours off? Will it eventually twist off or does it need to be forced off?

Use plastic band to the alu bezel.

You can try spraying "glass frosting" spray paint or even "clear coat" on the reflector to make it an OP style reflector.

Thanks Garry, what a brilliant suggestion. I’ve just done that with some clear spray wax and it works! Can’t wait to test it out again on my next night ride

Just measured mine with a King Kong hot off the charger. Got a reading of 2.15A with a King Kong charged to 4.38V.

You need to get a new charger as yours is grossly overcharging batteries. It is supposed to stop charging at 4.2 volts.

Yeah I thought that as soon as I checked the voltage, just using some nasty cheap chinese chargers at the moment. I’m waiting for my local supplier to get the I4 charger in stock so I can dump these nasties…

4.35v it the maxium you want to take a li-ion, you should not take them past 4.2v really

Thanks Benckie, I’ve only just discovered how bad my chargers are thanks to my new but cheap DMM. I’m dumping these chargers as soon as I get the I4 charger. Thankfully now I have the A8 package I have at least 1 decent charger.

My cheap dmm read a good .3v high compared to my megger, you may need to try it against a known good meter like a fluke. Could be the chargers are under charging and your reading over.

It is a great package deal IMO. The over charged battery just run it in the flashlight for 5 mins or so to drop the volts. Over 4.2v is not good, over 4.35v is unsafe.

Thanks for the feedback Benckie and Gords.

I think the DMM is actually o.k, that is after lots of running around and fitting the biggest cables I could find for AMP readings. Now that I have the best leads available to me locally (which isn’t saying much) I’m getting some good consistent readings that match what other reviewers are getting. I’ve also tested batteries off the trustfire charger that came with this package which is a decent charger, and I’m getting voltage readings consistently of around 4.18-4.19A. I’d say the problem is with the other chargers as they don’t stop charging after the light turns green. I’ve read this about these nasties in another review, so I’m certain I just need a decent multi charger. Might as well since I’m starting a flashlight collection.

Thanks Garry, I’ve bought off hkequipment on eBay dozens of times, first time ordering off there store
