WUBEN L50 budget rechargeable flashlight & cell
Thanks for the review!
The Wuben L50 was, more or less, my first “proper flashlight” and what got me into this hobby and started my collection, back in 2019. I was really happy with it back then and I still think it’s fine and decently build flashlight. Due to the deep reflector cup, it’s pretty throwy for a 18650 tube light.
The biggest downside to me is it’s lenght; with a length of almost 14 cm it’s pretty long for a 18650 ‘tube light’. A Convoy S2+ for example, is substantially shorter. (But that has a more shallow reflector and doesn’t have build in charging ofcourse.)
For the people who want to swap the LED in it, my advise is to think twice if you really want to do that!
A while back I attempted to do it, but first of all: it’s a pain in the ass to get it open, because it was glued tight together as hell! I tried it with a lot of heat, but it wouldn’t move. I eventually damaged the bezel with my vise-grip (even though there were a lot of layers of rubber around the bezel), at which point I was like: “Screw it, I’m going to brute force it and if it breaks, it breaks!” But in the end I got it open!
What really stood out, was that it has a plastic reflector cup, instead of aluminium. It also has a custom MCPCB of roughly 18mm, with two holes in it, in which the stems/legs of the centering ring/gasket go. So if you want to swap the LED, you either have to modify a ‘standard’ 20mm MCPCB or re-use the existing one.
In the end I didn’t bother to swap LED, because I didn’t feel like putting even more time and effort into it.
Still though, nothing wrong though with the original Osram P9 LED, if you can stand cool white and low(er) CRI.
