Packaging and Appearance

The same white box made of thin textured cardboard, featuring an image of the flashlight on the front and the unexpected absence of the usual brightness and runtime chart on the back.


Inside we see a plastic tray holding the flashlight on top and the accessories underneath. To prevent the accessories from spilling out when you remove the tray from the box, a small piece of cardboard has been thoughtfully placed over them. It is a simple yes - as it turns out - extremely handy addition.

The kit includes everything necessary and expected:

  • the flashlight itself
  • a 5000 mAh 21700 battery (I can’t wait for Wurkkos to start including 6000 mAh batteries!)
  • a USB-C charging cable
  • a manual (includes a Russian translation)
  • a lanyard
  • 2 O-rings

Externally, the “Pro” version is identical to the original model released a year ago. It remains a hefty (250g!) chunk of metal featuring longitudinal grooves and a protruding tailcap. However, while the previous generation had a gun-grey anodized finish, the new model comes in blue - a color I definitely prefer.

Measuring 126x41x26mm and weighing 250g (fully loaded), the Wurkkos HD02 Pro is certainly not the kind of EDC flashlight you carry in your pocket constantly without ever turning it on for days at a time. Instead, given its functionality, it serves as an all-in-one solution; if you’ve put it in your pocket, it’s because you intend to use it. To give you a sense of scale, here is a comparison with a 21700 battery.

The flashlight’s appearance is (and remains) distinctive; you won’t mistake the HD02 for any other flashlight as it truly boasts a unique design. Is this design good? In my opinion, yes. It’s not a “wow” piece meant just for admiring; rather, it’s a successful example of industrial design for a tool, not just a pocket trinket.






The grip is quite comfortable. The flashlight is certainly large, but not excessively so. Your fingers fit neatly into the grooves on the fins, ensuring a secure hold.

The tailcap features a standard 1\4" tripod mount. This is completely unnecessary for a regular flashlight, but then again, both versions of the HD02 are far from being an ordinary model. In this case, what’s more useful isn’t a full-sized photography tripod (hardly anyone would buy one intentionally to use with a flashlight) or a standard monopod, but rather a small tripod that can lift the light about 20 centimeters above the table, allowing the “wings” to cast a nice flood of light on table. Incidentally, Wurkkos sells such a stand as well. I didn’t have one on hand, so I’m including a photo of it from my previous review of the first version.


The magnet in the tailcap is strong enough to securely hold the fully loaded flashlight in a horizontal position, let alone a vertical one. The nut-like shape of the tailcap makes it easy to unscrew, and its substantial width ensures firm tailstand. This isn’t critical for a standard flashlight, but it is definitely important for the HD02 PRO, as you can raise it`s wings to illuminate table the light is standing on. However, a tripod allows you to fully unlock the flashlight’s potential. Alternatively, you could place the light on the edge of a cabinet and angle one or two wings downward.


There are springs in both the tailcap and the head assembly; unlike some major brands, Wurkkos has never hindered the use of flat-top batteries or installed physical limiters at the head end.


The threads on the body are fine and not anodized, making it easy to mechanically lock out the light with a slight twist of the tailcap.


The clip is a single-way design. It can be unscrewed if desired, but personally, I find it doesn’t get in the way at all.

There is the rubber cover for the USB-C charging port above the clip. The flashlight takes about 140-150 minutes to charge, drawing 11-12W of power. A red indicator in the center of the button turns green when charging is complete. It also allows for a rough estimate of the battery level (solid green - flashing green - solid red - flashing red).

The button is integrated into the center of a rotary switch. This is a fairly common and definitely convenient design, as turning the switch to the desired position for a specific light mode is much easier than executing a complex sequence of button presses. A small protrusion on the switch serves as a finger rest and also protects the button
from accidental activation when the flashlight is placed on a surface.




There are three positions in total: the center for the main light, the left for UV and red light, and the right for the green laser.

And what about the side light panels, you ask? Well, nothing - they turn on and off automatically, which is great. A Hall effect sensor built into the flashlight handles this function. The button is used solely for adjusting the brightness and color temperature of the floodlight.

The wings move smoothly and stay in the closed position thanks to a small groove that catches a ball-shaped detent at the tip of each wing. Specifications for the side light and its controls are printed in the recess beneath the wing.



This is time to highlight the main difference between the original version and the PRO model. Yes, the wings rotate - a feature the first version lacked so much! You couldn’t angle the wing lights downward if the flashlight was magnetically attached in a vertical position, for example. A few months later, Wurkkos HD05 was released; it featured a single wing that rotated properly, and - believe me - that turned out to be incredibly convenient. You could use the main light for medium-range tasks while using the wing light for close-up work or as a camping/repair light.

In short, both wings now rotate, allowing you to set almost any desired lighting angle, as you’ll see below. Each panel houses 32 high-CRI LEDs, delivering a combined maximum brightness of 600 lumens.




The second change is the addition of a red light; the Wurkkos HD02 PRO now boasts a complete set of popular light types:

  • medium-to-long-range main beam
  • floodlight (side panels)
  • red
  • UV
  • green laser (okay, not exactly "popular"l)

The optics remain unchanged except for the red light. The main white light still uses the same shallow, smooth reflector with a Luminus SFT70.2 LED at the base. The specific models for the red and UV LEDs are not disclosed. Frankly, neither the manual nor the product page lists the main LED model either - which is odd, since the SFT70.2 is a great LED with absolutely no reason to be hidden. I asked Terry, and it turns out to be a result of some Amazon policy. Though, in my opinion, they could have created separate promotional materials for that platform and more detailed ones for others.



UI

By and large, UI remain unchanged; the only addition is the ability to switch between UV and red modes. Turning the toggle switch selects the light type

WURKKOS HD02 PRO IN ACTION

The main light, UV light, and green laser remain unchanged. The main white beam is a standard cool white with a low CRI. To Wurkkos HD02 Pro’s credit, it isn’t excessively cool; at 5800K, it is slightly warmer than the typical 6000–6500K range.

Brightness is fully regulated. At peak output, you can expect about one minute from a cold start. However, it sustains half-brightness for a substantial seven minutes (potentially longer in winter). After thermal step-down kicks in, the flashlight maintains one-third of its maximum output - around 1000 lumens for nearly two hours.

This level is enough for a walk and even excessive for general household tasks. It is worth noting that 8–10 years ago, 1000 lumens was usual short time turbo-mode almost any EDC flashlight. Now, you get a full two hours! There is also some additional runtime available after the brightness eventually drops further.

The previous version’s 300-lumen side light has already been a great level that did`t need to be improved. But Wurkkos did that improve! And, yeah, that is sooo cool - HD02 PRO sustains this new high output of 600 lumens. So now it serves as a practical mode for when you need serious illumination. Two hours of such a brightness as an astonishing update, IMO. One or two spare batteries will provide enough runtime to last from evening until midnight - or even all night long, if you lower the brightness to 300 lumens.

Now, let’s take a look at the light in action.

PRIMARY LIGHT

Luminus SFT70.2 is a “dedomed” LED , it lacks the light-diffusing silicone dome. This concentrates the beam, allowing it to throw light effectively over long distances. However, since the LED itself is large, the hotspot remains quite broad. Combined with the compact reflector, this creates a solid mid-range beam that is also capable of reaching out to greater distances when needed.

In the photos, alongside the Turbo mode, I’ve included the 30% brightness level - a level that flashlight can maintain consistently.

200 meters. This is typically the maximum distance one needs to illuminate in every day use. If a flashlight covers this range, I consider it capable of handling the vast majority of everyday throw requirements. Of course, with this specific optic setup, 1000 lumens isn’t quite enough for truly brilliant illumination at that range, but HD02 PRO does manage to reach it in Turbo mode.

To keep this Wurkkos HD02 Pro review objective, I need to offer a bit of criticism. While the floodlight performance represents a huge step forward, the main light could have used some refinement as well. The flashlight retains the same flaw i`ve found in the first generation: the minimum brightness of 10 lumens might seem low on paper, but turn it on in the middle of the night, and your eyes will realize just how bright it actually is.

You won’t be blinded, of course, but it’s far from comfortable level , just look at how well the light 8–10 meters at pic below. It is certainly a good thing that the flashlight - casts a beam with impressive width and throw even at lower brightness levels. The flashlight remains far from useless even with a depleted battery. However, I would definitely like to see a 0.5-lumen minimum brightness setting. I must notice that quite a few EDC flashlights from major brands offer something similar as their lowest mode.

FLOOD LIGHT

The light from the “wings” features:

  1. a high color rendering index (CRI)
  2. adjustable color temperature; the coziest warm setting (2700K) will be dimmer than the cool setting due to the lower efficiency inherent in warm LEDs.

Beyond simply holding the flashlight to cast a flood beam or illuminate a workspace for close-up tasks (like repairs or soldering), HD02 PRO can also function as a camping lantern. It’s perfect for weekend trips, hunting, fishing, or simply as a light source during a power outage.

The brightest camping lantern I know of is the Sofirn LT1. It delivers 800 lumens and maintains that output consistently without stepdown for about seven hours. Note: I’m not counting “turbo-burst” models here which might hit like 2000 lumens for 5 seconds, since sustained brightness is what matters to us. Last year, I`ve also encountered another flashlight with camping lantern functionality that was extremely bright in that mode: Wurkkos TS27.

So, the original HD02 couldn’t fully realize its potential as a camping light because its “wings” couldn’t rotate on their axis, a feature the HD05 finally has. However, HD02 PRO really excels as a camping light, primarily due to the exceptional brightness of the panels in its wings. 600 lumens is a lot, really a lot. Roughly speaking, that’s the brightness of a 60-watt incandescent bulb. It’s frankly too much for a usual 2-3 persons tourist tent, for example. But it’s just right for a canopy or a gazebo; that level of brightness is usually enough to read by without straining your eyes! Even 300 lumens may be more then enough for reading a book, since the light shines directly downward without scattering uselessly to the sides.

The “wings” design is great because you can precisely adjust the light angle without wasting any output. This is incredibly convenient when placing the light source right up against a wall. A standard barrel-style camping lantern would shine light toward the wall as well, wasting battery power. With the HD02 PRO, however, you can place it on a table or shelf and raise just one wing or both, for that matter, since they not only lift but also rotate on their axes!

There are countless ways to use this floodlight. Here are a few off the top of my head:

  • place the light on a table as-is, or elevate it using a small tripod with a telescopic pole (a genuinely worthwhile accessory for this light)
  • place it on a shelf
  • attach it magnetically to the ceiling (e.g., to the metal framing of a gazebo)
  • attach it magnetically to a fence or car
  • hang it above a table using a guy line (it comes with a lanyard, after all)
  • use it as fill light for photos or videos
  • simply hold it in your hand to light the path right in front of your feet

Take a look: the gazebo measures 3x4 meters. For a complete comparison, I also included an LED lamp with a 5000K color temperature and 750 lumens of brightness. The Wurkkos HD02 PRO is also set to 5000K. The other two shots show the light from one wing and both wings at maximum brightness.

UV

The most important feature of a UV flashlight is the correct wavelength. To cut costs, some manufacturers install a frankly useless 395nm LED; de facto, it just emits an intense blue light that mostly makes bright colors pop with that “disco” glow - you know the kind of light I mean.

What you actually need, and what works properly, is 365nm. That specific wavelength reveals everything you might (or might not) want to see. What is a UV flashlight good for? Checking banknotes and documents, spotting fluid leaks, finding grime, or making a neat-freak acquaintance blush. I’d wager the LED is even powerful enough to cure UV resin.

LASER

The laser has a long throw, though, to be honest , I don’t see much practical use for it. Still, it’s there and doesn’t get in the way, so why not?


RED LIGHT

A maximum output of 110 lumens for red light is really a lot for red light. What’s it for? First, preserving night vision. Second, it doesn’t attract midges. Don’t count on it to ward off mosquitoes, though; they home in on the CO2 in your breath. At the lowest red-light setting, however, you can maintain your night vision.

OVERALL

Wurkkos HD02 PRO has truly earned the “PRO” designation; it is far more than just a cosmetic update. The light has finally “spread its wings”, allowing for almost any desired beam angle. Most importantly, you can now hang or magnetically mount it, and the wings will direct light downwards! I am a huge fan of camping lanterns, and I consider Wurkkos HD02 PRO to be soooo good in this role. It isn’t the brightest camping lantern out there, again, for that, you’d want the Sofirn LT1 with its 800 lumens.

However, the “barrel” design of LT1 scatters light sideways; to minimize waste, it really needs a lampshade to redirect light downward. In contrast, HD02 PRO shines directly downward (or wherever you aim the wings) without wasting light when hung or magnetically mounted. And if you place it on a table, it won’t blind people sitting around it,a common issue with barrel-style lanterns. In short, Wurkkos HD02 PRO combines the advantages of “UFO” lights (downward-directed beam) and barrel lights (tabletop stability) while avoiding the drawbacks of each (such as being limited to hanging, or losing light and causing glare due to sideways emission).

A second major improvement is the doubling of the wings’ brightness, and the fact that flashlight can actually sustain that 600-lumen output! Given the directional nature of the beam, this provides illumination comparable to a full-sized LED bulb.

The main beam is convenient for walking and illuminating the path right in front of you, yet it also has the throw to reach 200–300 meters into the distance. It boasts impressive turbo brightness and the ability to maintain around 1000 lumens for a couple of hours straight.

The UV light is the “real deal,” effectively illuminating everything it’s supposed to. The addition of a red light might also be important to some; 110 lumens is extremely bright. The laser, like the red light, could also be a key feature for some users.

In short, I consider Wurkkos HD02 PRO to be a truly versatile flashlight, one that functions perfectly as both a handheld light and a camping light without any awkward compromises. It provides illumination you need for everyday tasks as well as the light for specialized occasional tasks (UV, red ligth, laser).

Yeah, it isn’t an EDC flashlight due to its size. However, buying this one unit can replace the need for several different flashlights; it does it all. Wurkkos has definitely done a great job here.

Did the diffusers start lifting/bulging out on turbo? Ambient temp needs to be below 17°C to occur. I’ve had to poke a hole through the diffusers on my HD05, HD02 Pro, and HD02 Mini to let the pressure out.
